Going Keto

I am going to give this a shot - because I usually don't do too awfully well when I cut a lot of carbs......but oh well right? Just some current stats - 6'0, 215 lbs 16-17% bf.

Looking to cut to about 8% or better. I am going to make the assumption that I will only require a refeed probably once every 2 weeks..don't really see the need to increase the frequency as far as that is concerned. Anyone have any suggestions on how many calories I should be taking in?
According to some scientific calculation - I should be at maintenance around 3840....this seems a little high - I was thinking about shooting for 3000. I did read the sticky;)

Any feedback, tips would be appreciated greatly:D

Try to get all your caloric calculations from your LBM which at 17% bodyfat would make your LBM about 179. What is your caloric intake right now? But 3840 seems a bit excessive to me. That is If what you are trying to do is lose bodyfat. If you are eating clean I find its harder to eat enough calories so the ones you do eat should really count, so don't eat too much junk. But I am new to this whole Ketosis thing too. It has helped me out though

well as of my fitday.com log, today I consumed 2200 calories....here is a breakdown of what i had today...

How is this looking?

Try to eat foods with a bit less fat. I loosly follow 60% protein 30% fat and 10% carbs. The bulk of your nutrition is from fat and not protein. If it helps you to get started on the ketosis route than eat this way for the first few days but then cut the fat back. The pie chart will help you see how your percentages are adding up for the foods that you eat. But if you are trying to get into ketosis it takes keeping your carbs below 35 grams( for most people but it varies) Hope this helps.

I know lol yesterday was a little high as far as fat is concerned, but I will be making a trip the the grocery today, and am planning on picking up a lot of tuna w/ oil, cottage cheese, and probably some other things.

Any favorite high protein dishes you would like to share?

just double checked my chart for yesterday, and as far as keeping my carbs low, I accomplished that quite well, and surprisingly I think I tolerated it just fine. I think I had about 20 grams;)

Tons of chicken, eggs, almonds, lean ground sirloin, yellowfin tuna, salmon, crab, shrimp, cottage cheese, pork chops. These are a few high protein foods that are part of my weekly meals. I do have to say it is an expensive diet though. and drink a ton of water. the first thing that happens when you get to ketosis is you start to dehydrate and that will make any headahces you get that much worse. It takes about 2-3 days of low carbing to get to ketosis. I have read that by fasting for a day and drinking tons of water and cardio will get you there faster. I was so tired the first few days though that cardio was out of the question. Buy yourself some ketostix from the drug store to see if you are in keto. they are in the diabetic section.

Today was sketchy...to say the least! I am noticing though I am getting hungrier more frequently when I am eating on a schedule...today just was not so good, stressing about finals, and plus I ate a lot because I was active most of the day, and then a heavy Squat-Bench-Row - night at the gym...really downed a BIG protein shake - 62 grams/Pro and 31 grams/Carbs in itself.

I am going to really try to nail it down for the next 7 days, my body will probably chew me up and spit me out for changing diet AND beginning a different lifting program.

Here's the badness....
