Are you doing back squats the Olympic / high bar form or the low bar / powerlifting form?
Form breaks very easily when many lifters go ATG on the low bar / powerlifting style back squat I've noticed. High Bar Back Squat or Front squat work better with below parallel / atg depth.
To be honest idk. You'd think that for 16 yrs experience I would know but I just place it in a natural position, right on top the meat of my traps. Doesn't sit on spine at all. The I use my hands and pinch.
Also I was a leg press queen for years. I only started a serious squat routine this time around coming off of 4 yrs non training. So relatively speaking im a novice in squat hence my lowish numbers. I got away with it for years because I have nice symmetry and powerful big legs naturally. So I could look like a serious squatter without having to actually do it. But so far progress is coming quick and I can actually say me and squats actually like each other!
