Guns

yea I can't get her in the field yet though, so more of an ornate Xmas present that she could use in the backyard/range, and a potential family heirloom.

not a fan of nonfunctional cosmetics??? you must be a powerlifter :D:D:D

Ha ha ha - good point - but I have no engravings on my body either, so there!

Let's see - my Mac10 (Freedom Arms) is flat black, and my FN FiveSeven is all black, so is the S&W Silhouette and my other pistols, rifles, shotgun, and even my car. No fancy decorations. Keeps it simple. :-)

Never owned an AK, had a SAIGA for a bit, liked it a lot.

Would you go Russian, Chinese or US?
This particular rifle is Bulgarian. These are considered to be the absolute top of the line AKs and the action is smoother than anything I've ever felt. Deadly accurate. Everything about this rifle is perfect to me. Plus I'm a lefty so the AK platform is set up perfectly for myself.

The AK and the other east bloc weaponry is build from another perspective - drop it in the mud, pick it up, keep firing. It's just not built for accuracy - nothing else the Soviets did is high precision or fine marksmanship. Look at their aircraft - the Yak for example - a plane and an engine (radial) that a farm boy with mainly tractor experience could work on.

Cool guns (lots of macho Hollywood cred - esp with the para folder stock, they look wicked!) to play with at shorter distances - home defense maybe - but nothing for serious range work. Some are built way better than others of course - but they're fundamentally crude WWII era guns.

I don't care for the ballistics of the 7.62x39 at all - drops too much. Not that the 5.56/.223 is ideal, but it's much better than the 7.62x39. I like the 7.62x51 (.308) round, but that's nothing you plink with for fun. The 7.62x39 makes for good plinking though, such mild recoil. Lots of cheap (albeit crappy) ammo around too. :)

Oh, I should add that because AKs probably piss off liberals more than any other guns do, maybe they ARE perfect...

I've never owned an AK, and I would like to have a good one. I am not too concerned with the price. I don't particularly care if it's a wood or composite stock. Accuracy, yes, I know they aren't great. I'm not planning to take out a target from another zip code, I'll use a 50BMG for that.... LOL

If you've got the budget, go for one of these:
Custom Kalashnikov's and ComBloc Guns
Probably THE best AK47 variant around.

Make it an SBR while you're at it:

A lot of the things people regurgitate about AKs is false. Old POS WASR-10s with canted sights and gas blocks and khyber pass builds slapped together, sure those are inaccurate. My SAM7 will slam man size targets out to 500 yards all day. The ballistics of the 7.62x39 are IDENTICAL to the 30-30 Winchester, a popular rifle round for large game. I find it to be the perfect weapon. Open the cover and pack it full of mud and it will still dump 30 rounds without a hiccup. Plus good terminal ballistics and potential for accurate bullet placement out to 500yds. Everything I need.

Edit: also take into account I'm talking about a rifle with a receiver that is Miller from a block of solid steel. Not a stamped metal receiver folded together like most AKMs.

No real interest in the SBR shit, I don't want to wait.... I have done class 3 stuff before in trusts, it's only worth it for suppressors IMO. If I want an SBR, I'll just buy an AR/AK pistol... lol

In your opinion, what would be a good price on one?
For the Arsenal SAm7 you're looking at about 1200$. But take into consideration that amount of cash is buying you the best quality version of a fighting rifle that's been killing more people than cancer for 70 years and continues to do so today.

Not bad at all!

if you find a nice chinese out there they are nothing to scoff at...seems like a lot of em have been beat to hell though. A lot of guys swap the firing pin out of the chinese into the yugos too
Yeah I was lucky enough to find one that had been sitting in some grandfathers closet for about 10 years so it's in pristine condition. Beautiful finish on the wood, not a scratch on it.
