hey guys so Iv been having problems doing back squats. But Iv been going front squats fine. When I put some weight on the back I feel like I'm going to fall forward or my left leg caves in. I use to do them all the time idk what's happened. But my fronts have blown up I'm up to 150kg for 6. Yet struggle with 80kg on backs? Any tips advice cheers brahs :)

Hard to say, especially since front squats are the more difficult movement and you would tend to fall forward on those moreso than back squats...

What's your bar position on back squats? High or low? Where are your elbows? How's your back - rounded, arched?

If you're falling forward I'd be led to believe your weight isn't on your heels/outside of your feet-you're not spreading the floor as you're driving up out of the hole.

Or you're looking down...

Too many variables. Shoot a video of your squat, side profile and just keep your face out of it...

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on tbh Just don't feel comfortable going down as well. Definitely something's wrong with the way I'm doing it. Bar is normally just under the bone behind my neck.

I had a similar problem after I spent some time just doing the front squats. It just didn't feel right and I couldn't move weight. I just kept at them and made sure I used good form and after a few weeks they felt comfortable again.

Try doing some hip mobility work. Kelly has some great stuff on YouTube showing quick ways to open them up.

Could you by any chance post a link to that video?

I am always open to hip exercises. I need to constantly get adjustments due to hip displacement.

It does sound like a hip issue.

Look up squat University on YouTube and Instagram. I can't recommend that guy enough.

Sounds like you've got some minor strength imbalances if your hips are being displaced that much... Usually that's due to over powered glutes and weak hips. Do you do any hip thrusts/bridges with a barbell in your lower body programming?

No I don't. But I've been thinking about it. I see people thrusting with the bar and I've never tried myself.

I do hip flexor movements before and after squats.

Movements like exercises or stretches? Because working them before you squat may screw you up, since they'd be tightened

Id be foam rolling the hell out of them, then stretching them... Add in some barbell hip bridges at the end of your workout, then be sure to stretch and roll them again at the end...

Had issues with displacement on deads until I started doing all that...

Stretches. Lunge position.

I do foam foam roll I just forgot to mention. I have had issues with hips since I was young.

What type of shoes are you wearing? Sounds like you are probably using traditional running shoes you should get some skater shoes (flat as possible) . Running shoes will push the weight forward towards your toes vs on your heals

It's most likely hip mobility. I had same problem. Instead of bending at the hips ur lower back takes the hit. Lots of stretching before and after every workout has done wonders. Foam rolling is a waste of time imo

Could be the shoes you're using, a mobility issue, or weaknesses in your upper back and/or core.

Edit* could even be you just need a cue to keep your chest up so your back doesn't round.

But I say this because I'm stubborn and I'll stop using flat shoes and pow my squat drops almost 50-70 lb and it took me forever to figure out what it was
