I disagree with CUTUP. While that specific type of program worked for his wife DOES NOT mean it will work for your wife. After working with many women ranging from hosewifes to fitness and bodybuilding competitors I can tell you that everybody is different and responds different to any given program. I do agree that lifting heavy works great for women but that also depends on diet, supplements, aas, cardio and specific goals.
First of all it's absolute nonsense that you should not do cardion on training days. That is VERY given that cardio works anytime of the day. I feel it DOES work great first thing in the morning and also right after a workout. Depends on goals it can (and should ) be done on non-workout days as well and even longer.
Another thing while it's correct that cardio should be performed preferably on treadmill, stairmaster and stepmill (not on a bike), it is incorrect that it should be perfromed only HIGH INTENSITY. In fact moderate intesity for longer periods work pretty good too. I think it comes down to perosnal preference and goals. Somebody who wants to preserve ( and has) alot of muscles would benefit more from lower intensity.
And last nutrition. Women should not diet the same as men. While it does work for some, it doesnt for others. Again I've worked with women who did great on chicken breast and shakes while others responded better to beef. Same goes for carbs. It all depends on how fast is metabolism, how high is the intesity of the workouts, what supplements are used and what are goals.
You can't just say to a person stick to high protein, low glycemic carbs. It just doesnt work that way. And dont ever compare your wife's results with another person. Are they the same age, weight, training and supplement history, same goals? Without knowing it do not compare.
Good Luck to your wife DrMCM!
