Help Me Deal With The Workout "buddies"

Agreed. Good job keeping your cool. But if I saw that dude again, like you say, I'd invite the insecure mother fucker outside and try to treat me the the way he did his girl. I'd bait the bitch into touching me then I'd break him down (in self defense of course) and leave him with maybe one leg and arm with some intact connective tissue. I don't put up with men mistreating women or kids. Bad no no I my book. If a dude does that, I see it as my right and duty to break them. Then lecture his crying ass before the meat wagon shows up. Done it before. Only thing is.. sometimes the one being abused starts crying and getting all mad at me. Oh well. That's her fucking problem. "Plenty of wife beaters out there. . Go find another.. this one is out of service."

Usually douche bags stay the fuck out of my way. They go way out of their way to get around me. Still clueless tools will sometimes do dumb ass shit and I usually give them a pass, then a clue.. then a shoulder. By then it's good

I swear I'm not a dick. Just have no Patience for true assholes.

Adapt.

No squat racks open because these dicks are occupying all of them?

Fuck squat racks, just clean the bar into position off of the floor and front squat that shit.

Just joking of course, this is a pretty lousy situation. If they are leaving their things in the really high activity pieces of equipment and just lurching around for 10 minutes not doing anything then that is very poor gym etiquette.

If egregiously bad gym etiquette is preventing you from working out properly and you can't politely resolve the issue with these individuals and work in with them when needed, then I would let gym management know that your recent experiences at the gym have been mostly negative as a result of poor etiquette from other gym members.

Indeed management MUST be appraised of the situation bc rest assured if you are having this problem, so are other mates.

Of course some in mgt cling to the notion the more members the better!

Fact is your describing exactly what compelled me to "buy my own gym"! Hey I know it's expensive bla bla bla, NOT really when you consider the alternative. Just start slow and only buy quality equipment, well at least middle line stuff. And remember, IN GENERAL, the more exercises a piece of equipment is "built for", the more unstable it is likely to be.

I don't know for sure but I betcha you have enough room somewhere to erect a squat rack! Apt living so what, bc I generally found mgt MORE than interested in having someone else enhance their ill equipped "exercise room"! (Their primary concern is typically the liability risk......keeping the barbell in your apt limits that considerably and if you cable wrap the heaver BB plates the risk begins to approximate ZERO)

Nonetheless if your a serious lifter a gym with select equipment is a must, IMO.

YOUR ZEAL SPEAKS FOR ITSELF MATE AND IT SEEMS YOU ARE THERE NOW FELLA! SO GET IT GOING AND I PROMISE YOUR ONLY REGRET, WISHING YOU DID THIS SOONER, SERIOUSLY :)

Otherwise your best option is likely to be changing your WO hours. (You might also consider asking these future Arnies what THEIR WO hours are typically) OR entertaining changing gyms in spite of how convenient it may seem.

I do not hesitate to move people's things off equipment, kind of douchey, but if your resting your bag, water bottle, straps, raps, belts on a bench or machine and not using it, I can and will remove it for you without asking.

As for the lagging wait time of these said gym whores I use to sit and stare at these people, normally it would make them feel pressured to either quit and move, or move rapidly.

Gym problems never end

it is that time of year that a new shipment of these guys will be everywhere. I have already seen it at my gym. I am going to have to figure out a way to rearrange my entire life so I can train mid day when they are not able to go. I understand everyone has as much a right to use the equipment as I do, but fauk it sucks that I am serious and need to squat in the one squat rack, but these dudes use it to curl, t-bar row (butt the end of the bar in the corner of the rack), and other less productive things such as just hanging out talking for 10 min rests. I have already seen examples of all the stereotypical jokes, balance balls, weird cross-fit inspired poor form, body weight exercises in the rack etc... I even got the comment about my "steroid protein" being a bad idea (my whey, luecine, creatine, and oats post workout in a shaker cup). I can not wait until late February when they all give up and start their year long dirty bulk on the couches keeping up with the latest fad TV shows so I can train in peace for 10 months before their one month out of the year periodization schedule has them in our way again.

Damn I can relate so much to this post. And while I've run into a bunch of burning douchebags at the university gym, more often than not they are just doing the common bro shit. However, there are times when dudes catch me off guard with the shit they do. For example, there's this dude at my gym who the other day straight up grabbed his chick by the arm and took her away, telling her that her behavior wasn't acceptable etc loud as fuck, because she was squatting on the rack in front of where I was benching.

And although I was checking that ass out between sets, I thought the dude was a huge turd for doing that public shaming bullshit that his people do. I mean it's one thing to set the law with your girl but shouting at a girl and grabbing her by the arm like a child in front the whole gym isn't ok in my book. I'll tell you though, the next time the fucker comes at me asking when my set is up I'm gonna tell the muzzie bastard to go fuck himself...
Maybe you should steal her from that douchebag and problem solved. I for one would rage if I ever saw that sort of thing go down at my gym.

Thanks you lot, this thread reinforces why I need to keep my own gym going. I couldn't cope with managing dudes like this
Nothing better than having your own home gym or even a place that you and your buddies can train together in.

If some people try stealing the equipment I'm using or just being total dicks I shut them down hard with my mean mug.

  • ask how many sets they have once they finish their set
  • then proceed to ask to work in
  • if they say ok, then great
  • if they say no, then say well you arent using it right now so i think im gonna just use this while you rest, thanks a lot

This. ^ I've never had anyone say no, but if they're really involved in their debate over tampons vs pads for their manstruation, I may have to ask twice. The second ask is always in a louder voice with an attitude, which not only allows me work in, but usually causes them to disappear after their next set, since my workout is then interrupting their conversation.
