Hey, Meso!

Iron Mango

New Member
I've been on here for a few days, but I've been following some threads for a month or two back. Finally decided it was time to join!

I was never really into fitness until after I had 2 kids and hit a whopping 220 lbs (at 5'3"). I started my journey 5 years ago. I was a cardio bunny the first year and then moved on to lifting. In the mix, I practiced Crossfit for about a year (not for me), but it helped give me some confidence about pushing more weight as I returned to the gym.

Today, I am down to 149 lb. Unfortunately, I am still hanging on to 31% BF. I feel my BF is a bit high to begin steroid use, but I'd like to follow others' journeys while I get there. Ideally, I'd like to reach 20% BF, but may start earlier depending on what I learn from you all! Any tips, motivation, anything along the way would be greatly appreciated! :D

Welcome to Meso and your nick makes me chuckle. Dieting and solid cardio works well for weight and fat loss, as well as a training program.

Nice to see another female join this fine forum :)

Agh, the dreaded C-word! I have been better about it recently, but I hate it more than anything. Would you say 3 hours a week is enough? That's what I aim for. My diet is pretty solid, usually... emphasis on usually.

Welcome to meso mango.

You look pretty good in your avi. In the least creepy sounding way possible, you look like you're holding onto that 31% in all the right places. ;)
Didn't sound creepy at all! :p But thanks... I just wanna be totally ripped. I'm not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!!! Hopefully these forums and some of the ladies here will help with some ideas/inspiration.

You can try HIIT post weight training for ten minutes or so to get it over with. I feel it's more beneficial than long steady state cardio as well.

There is quite a few ladies running really great logs here actually. A few of them just finished cycles but I know they're lurking.

I do HIIT mostly. I only do long bouts of steady cardio when I'm feeling super lazy. Lol. I'll be honest and say I've only been consistent with cardio for the past 3-4 weeks. But it's a change in my training that I think I've finally been able to just accept. No more fighting the necessary. :)

I followed Crystal's cycle. She's the one that led me to this site to begin with. Now, I'm following Rana's. I believe Rana's BF similar to mine, so I am really looking forward to seeing her results!!!

welcome to meso, thanks for the introduction!
If that's you in your avi than you have nothing to worry about.... other than all of us guys drooling over the picture
Haha! Thanks, Dimentio! That's me... good ol' soft me. Hopefully y'all will help me change that! :D

Welcome! Congrats on the changes up to this point. That required lot of discipline and dedication.

As you already said it and cringe hearing it again, cardio, weights and diet should be your number one focus.

We all have a love-hate relationship with cardio... but it will be key.

I personally swear by fasted cardio. As soon as you wake up, empty stomach, 30 minutes. Doesn't even have to be high intensity. Do this each morning. Then have breakfast right after... eggs with oatmeal or shake with oatmeal and some peanut butter type of a thing.

After your weight training, I would also keep the 3x a week HIIT sessions to maximize and finish off your workouts.

And finally, diet.... this is what will keep you going and loosing fat. And staying hydrated. We can help you with that too if you need ideas on your current set up.

At this point, you're right. I don't think you're ready to venture off to the aas world... you've got plenty of time for that. My guess is, you work hard and incorporate those things, you should be down to 20% before the new year

Thanks, GearGodess!

I try to do fasted cardio at least 3 times a week, but work and two kids don't always let me make it! One day, I'll have an at-home gym... one day! I'll start working on HIIT more... I like Eman's idea of 10, 15 minute HIIT sessions. Makes it feel more doable and less overwhelming!

I am more than willing to take advice on my diet. I've been carb cycling; but even on the days I up my carbs, they generally aren't too high. I have 5-6 meals a day, maybe 1600-1900 cals a day.

Breakfast: Egg white and veggies, shredded wheat or oats on carb days
Snack: Protein mixed with water or almond milk (and almonds if I remember to pack them)
Lunch: 4 oz white meat (usually chicken) and more veggies (I've been into broccoli lately), wheat rice or quinoa on carb days
Snack: Another protein shake
Dinner: 4 oz white meat (usually chicken) and veggies, sometimes I'll make protein pancakes instead on carb days, but only if I have a mega sweet tooth lol.

I've also been having tons of fruit lately... The sugar, I know! It's just so hot where I live and watermelon and mangos have taken over my life!

Besides diet, any supplements you suggest to help lose the BF?
