high blood pressure

before HRT my blood pressure was a constant 130/80 sometimes lower. but since starting HRT my blood pressure is averaging 140/90 give or take a few points. anyone else see a slight increase in BP and how did you combat it. i am on androgel 5.

I have noticed the same thing. Before TRT, it was usu. 120/70 or below. Now it is usu. in the range they now call pre-hypertension. When I am stressed or when I get angry or upset, it can spike to 160/90. I am a relative newcomer to TRT, so I haven't mentioned this to my doc yet. I will ask him if there is anything we can do that doesn't involve taking prescription drugs. If he can't suggest any options, I will seriously consider stopping TRT. If I have to choose between a healthy T level and a healthy BP, I will take the healthy BP.

From a nutrition point of view (which I would always explore before pharmaceuticals) I'd recommend:

Garlic - equivalent of 2,000mch allicin daily.
Magnesium 700-800mg daily. Either take all of it at night away from calcium (they compete for absorption) or take it throughout the day to deal with stress. For example, if work is particularly stressful, take 250 mg before work, 250mg during and 250mg after work to help wind down.
Lite Salt. Morton lite salt is 54% Potassium and 46% Sodium. Even if you don't use much salt, use some of this salt.

The above will surely lower your BP. If not, you may have more serious issues that may need medical attention/intervention.

I have been on TRT for 21 yrs. but my BP goes up when someone checks it. I have been put on BP meds and passed out from Low BP. They tell me I have white coat fever. So I started taking my own BP hell every time I tried to check it I could feel my self get upset I call it upset because my hear starts beating faster and I get stressed. I now at age 61 can take my own BP and not have a problem getting upset. My Dr. was going to put me on a BP med but I fight him on it. Anyway I have ED and when Cialis came out my Dr. told me to take 20 mgs. every 72 hrs. Wow doing this I am ready anytime and it is keeping my BP down so now my Dr. said no need to put me on a BP med. So as most men on TRT have some kind of ED you may want to kill to birds with one stone and try this.

My old doc was very good at getting an accurate reading by getting me to relax. Initially the reading was taken by a nurse and would be almost 10 points higher on the systolic and 5 points on the diastolic. Then my doctor would come in and chit chat with me and at the same time would have me take long slow deep breaths and would take the reading after a minute or so of this. It worked very well.

I know several people who claim to have "white coat syndrome". While I believe "WTS" to be a real situation, I also feel a lot of these people still have high BP. I think most of us get nervous in a doctor's office. Yet my BP has never been high. "...would have me take long slow deep breaths and would take the reading after a minute or so of this." Anyone's BP will go down after relaxing with deep breaths for a few minutes. What does this prove? We don't need to know your BP when you are fully relaxed. We need to know what your BP is on average during the day. That is the BP that's going to cause complications or a premature end to your life - NOT your fully relaxed BP reading after deep breaths.

High blood pressure is a very dangerous thing and IMO, even borderline BP should be delt with seriously.

I was in the hosp. to get to the bottom of my BP when I was younger and I did not have it. Yet ever time I got it checked it was high. Real high.

If one gets high blood pressure treated are they having their symptoms of a medical condition treated or are they having the cause of a medical condition treated. I think if high blood pressure "kills" it's not really the high blood pressure that kills, rather it is another condition such as obstructions (plaque formation/ blood clots). Stimulants and stress (adrenaline) can cause high blood pressure and so can obstructions. If the high blood pressure is treated but blood clots and plaque formation are still present is treating the symptom the right treatment? One can be treated for high blood pressure yet still die from CAD because the cause was not treated, only the symptoms.

i just found this and am happy to see i am not the only . my bp is really effecting my already 2 weeks on trt. i skipped my shot friday cause i felt my bp was getting me out of breath. it gets up to 145-92 just sitting around. i was 117/70 before trt.. i am at a crossroad and dont knowwaht to do

hey guys on another site i just read that gyno, and high bp are the most common problems from high estreogen,,i thought it was high test?? i do know that my nipples are a bit swollen ,no pain just a bloat look to them ,and i have gained 10 pounds in 2 weeks

peewee327,

Mine did the same thing, it went up about 10 points on both numbers after going on TRT, but then it came down to about 10 points below the original a while after.

wrathe,

Sounds like you're retaining water, which can cause high bp. You should see your doctor. Maybe a diuretic is needed? You should check in with your doc on this one. You don't want to screw around with high bp.

mine blood pressure has come down to normal it is 122/67 one tim and then 130/70 so it seems to have stabilized it seem you have to give this time to kick in and let the body get used to everything. sit tight

i really cant mine is like hypertensive..i get short breath and dizzy..i am going to dr. this am..but i am very skeptical of what these guys actually know..how will he know if it is from high E and to give arimedex or bp meds.. i skipped my shot friday and still am feeling like shit

Earthdog -- How long did it take for your blood pressure to adjust after that initial elevation? Weeks? Months? Any elevation in heart rate?

Thx.

wrathe are you sure you are not getting yourself all worked up and causing it to be worse than it is. and sometimes the home BP monitors are way off. bro try and relax. and let it take it course. but of course it is always good to have a doctor looking after ya. it sounds like you are having a anxiety attack

i would agree with you ;it sounds like anxiety.Though i a mshot tired like anything i do is a chore,in the gym i lose my brerath after just 2 or 3 reps.
Today Dr. took blood to see all level (my concern is i took my last shot 10 days ago so if it is E causing this is it still hi?)..he said do nothing till blood back..in the mean time i fee like crap

I think I noticed the initial elevation about 2 months into TRT, at a scheduled PCP follow-up. If there was an elevation in heart rate, I was not aware of it, but then again I didn't check it. Then about a month later it was down.

The test has to be E2 Estradiol. I used Arimidex 1/2 a one mg. pill everyday for a month. But switched to Indolplex/DIM to keep in check the arimidex is to strong to keep it normal I went to low 3 times and it sucks. Being to low is worse then to high to me.
