Hillary for Prez!!

I hear a lot of talk about Hillary Clinton running for president in '08. People, particularly those in media talk about this like it's an actual possibility. I have a really hard time with this. Is this country ready for a female president? Nevermind the politics. I can tell you that I'm definitely not. I can't imagine a female president. Even if I agreed with her politics 110% I still wouldn't vote to put a woman in the White House (as Prez). What would her husband be called? 1st Gentleman? I think that it will be a travesty if we have a white woman president before we have a minority male president...

travesty? wow. Both minorities, whats the difference? Anyway, whoever convinces me they could do the job the best gets my vote, except for hillary of course......i would vote for an incompetent candidate before i vote for her.

Women are not minorities. They make up 53 or so percent of the population.
In our society, anyone that isnt a white male is a minority. Pretty soon Hispanics will make up the majority of the population and they will still be called a minority.

Do you guys think that it is at all possible that this country will put a woman in the white house? I can't believe that when this is discussed in the media people talk about it as if it were a possibility. Am I THAT old fashioned? I just have a really hard time believing that a woman could be president.

it definitely is a possibility, although a long shot, and not very soon. I think most (or at least the majority) of Americans have traditional, old fashioned values. Like myself

--hey, is it possible that you CyniQ and I somewhat, maybe, possibly agree, just a little on something? I love to argue and debate my views with people. If i had a few hours locked in a room with you, JDUB and Grizz, I would have a field day. I would leave wth a pounding headache, but it would be interesting.

LOL. I think if we were locked in a room with Grizz... We'd leave with more anal pain than head pain. :D

she's got a cock, so it balances it out :D .

We won't elect a man with a beard, why on earth would anyone think we'd elect a woman? The logic behind this: men with beards are seen as being somewhat less than trustworthy; that beard must be hiding something, right? Likewise, women are generally perceived, whether correctly or not, as being weaker, less decisive, and generally not as capable as men. These perceptions are seemingly universal when it comes the the practical purposes of general human judgements and, while they can & do shift with time, they are as solidly entrenched today as they were when study first began some 60 years ago.

Very nicely put. IIRC JFK was the first Catholic president. That was only...what? 40 years ago? The idea that a woman could be elected to the governments highest office is ridiculous to me. We are certainly not ready for that. But why won't anyone in the media say that? They all act as if it's perfectly reasonable to talk about Hillary for president.

The main concern that I'd have with a female president is how in the hell will she deal with problems in other parts of the world where women are viewed as second rate individuals and are no better than dogs??? Honestly, how could a female President sit across from a Mid East dictator and tell him how it is going to be done when the whole time he is looking at with utter disgust???

The majority of the world hates GWB, but they do respect him and his power!!! Respect is huge...and a woman would NOT have that respect in some of the most volatile parts of the world.

Plus we are not ready for a bull dyke to be President.

I dunno, Kayz....'ol Janet Reno could probably garner some respect out of those Middle Eastern countries' leadership. While they may not openly admit it, they'd be scared to death of her & the knowledge that her shaky fingers could press that button! LOL

Reno would have as much chance of being elected as Howard Dean. :D

Margaret Thratcher had no trouble telling small-time dictators in the region how to go about their business. Benazir Bhutto ruled Pakistan with a iron hand for several years. As prime minister of India, Indhira Ghadi ruled millions of Moslems, and they cme to embrace her and look up to her as their protector.

Margaret Thatcher is a hell of a woman, there is no doubt about that. Hillary Clinton on her best day doesn't come close. That woman's speech at RR's funeral was amazing. You don't see many politicians with that kind of gravitas. But, Britain is a unique case. Prime Minister is not elected by the people. PM is chosen somehow by the party leadership.

As for India, I don't know anything about how their democracy operates.

True...but things are vastly different these days. India is hardly a radicaly Islamic country. India has adopted the western culture and way of life due to the influx of US businesses moving operations there.
