Home brewing list of items needed

If you’re accumulating equipment for home brewing, I assume it’s wise to accumulate it over time, from different sources, etc.? Or is that overkill and the gub’ment doesn’t likely care? “Home lab for the kids” and all….
Yeah I wouldn't really sweat it, you ain't buying controlled items unless you try to buy a pill press in that case it's: FBI open up time

Any drawbacks to using this setup from Amazon vs the one in the last??

I debated that setup but it looks like a recipe for leakage and I would prefer a regular buchner funnel with filter media. But, that’s my chemistry background perspective. You don’t really need fritted glass, I imagine filtering oils it’ll get clogged and be tough to clean. I’m sure folks who own it can testify one way or the other but this is the one I went with:

I just found this on AliExpress: $13.99 | 500ml 24/40 Suction Filtration Device 47mm Buchner Funnel 500ml Litre Erlenmeyer Flask

You’ll need some vacuum grease for this but it’s simpler, less chance of oil getting all over.

How do you go about cleaning such a filter after use?

I’ll assume if you’re homebrewing, you’re comfortable and understand safety precautions with dangerous chemicals. HCl can work, or H2SO4, or if you’re really brave, a mix of H2SO4 and H2O2 (sulfuric acid and hydrogen peroxide), known as piranha juice.

With a regular buchner funnel, you can simply wash it a few times through with HCl or even acetone, after you’ve discarded the filter media (filter paper).

Good luck sterilizing your own filter membrane.

you don’t, you throw it away and use a new one each time.
No the filter they don't come sterile so how can you sterilize something if the filter is non sterile?

If you can find membrane PTFE filter single packaged STERILE I'll buy a tons of it. I couldn't find any.

Bottle top filter are easier and superior and I mean the money spent are still ridiculously low for how much you can brew with one filter. 250ml for a 10$ bottle top filter.

You can autoclave it or cook it in the oven:

I’m glad I asked…I wasn’t aware that part of the setup I linked included “fritted glass” which appears to act as part of the filtering process. The linked disposable ones appear to be a better/easier choice.

Probably the easiest choice are the disposable setups @Sampei has linked to; I’m feeling nostalgic for my old chemistry days though, so I’m going for glassware old school style :P

Hey guy, i wanted to make sure that the items from the “It’s Brew Time!!!”, “Start up Homebrew Shopping list” & @Sampei ’s list in this thread haven’t had any updates to the items that are being used and if there have been better accessories or techniques that would make for some items being unnecessary or outdated.

Here’s a the poctures of the items I have in the cart from 3 different stores. I’m pretty sure I’m just missing minor accessories and parts but any advice to which items I’m missing or would be better off to buy a different brand or version would be greatly appreciated. If this is too close to the level of hand feed I apologize and let me know.

Thanks again.

Edit: oh shit. And carrier oils, specifically Castor Oil. I see some people saying MCT and GSO can be bought and used through like Amazon, logically I’d assume that would carry over for Castor Oil but just wanted to be sure.
