Wassup guys,

Wedding is in a little under 5 weeks and the fiancé and I are planning on Thailand for our honeymoon.

She wants to spend at least a portion of the trip in Phuket/Krabi for the beach and relaxation, and i want to spend at least part of the trip in changmai for some more of the site seeing and cultural stuff, we will probably spend at least a night or two in bangkok as well.

Thinking about 2 weeks.

Im interested to hear whatever advice or recommendations you guys have. Even if you havent been, but have heard about.

Thanks guys

Bangkok is a pretty wild city but well worth spending at least a couple days. Just cruising around and being a tourist seeing the sites is pretty fun. If you would like some custom clothing made, Bangkok is a good spot for it. I definitely experience the most scammers and people trying to get my money in Bangkok but it wasn't too terrible. Just use basic common sense and you'll be fine. Bangkok did not seem dangerous to me at all.

I've not been to Phuket or Krabi but other places in the area. It's hard to go wrong in that part of Thailand. If you're into more socializing and partying then go where there 's more establishments. If you want more solitude there are plenty of smaller Islands and beaches that are more mellow. If it's just slightly harder to get to and slightly less known about it will be very mellow. There are lots of spots in that general area. Wherever you stay in the southwest, it's hard to go wrong. I would highly suggest taking some boat tours. You can go snorkeling and check out secluded Islands. You can go out on a night boat tour and swim in the bioluminescent water. It sounded kind of cheesy but was honestly one of the coolest things I did there.

I've not been to Chiang Mai but I've only heard great things about it.

Thailand is incredible! IMO If you want to fully experience the place, forget about trying to stick a strict dietary regimen. The food there is absolutely incredible. I wanted to try everything and I did. No regrets there.

I don't speak Thai but if I go to a country I at least learn how to say please. thank you, hello, a few polite phrases like that. Thai people are super friendly and I always got a great response that I at least tried to say a few polite things in their language.

I've been thinking about going back ever since that one trip! Amazing country!

Also, if you're into combat sports, thai kickboxing is common there. You can go to fights of anything from total amateur to professional. Pretty fun to see up close if you're into that.

id love to go to an authentic thai fight while there, but might be a hard sell with the fiance.
Ill definitely keep it in mind and pitch it to her.

The rest youve said is a lot of what i hear over and over.

food is amazing, people are nice, cant go wrong with any of the beaches or islands, bangkok isnt as sketch as the hangover movie makes it seem.

I fully expect to come back fat, because if its one thing ive learned about myself from my travels and deployments, its that i am a food tourist for sure.
I want to try fucking everything

I've bn to all 3 places. Phuket is "expensive" compared to the others. Very nice! Water is warm like bath water. A bit more spread out.
Chiang mai is not a party place. Very history based culture. We met a ladyboy there. Bought her dinner ($5) and she was our tour guide for the day. Was pretty cool.
Bangkok is like NY city as in its people on top of ppl. Very crowded and smelly.

Get used to the dirty bathrooms. They refer to the nice ones as "European bathrooms". Still no toilet paper usually. You'll grow to love the bathroom sprayer.

Get massages everyday! Ave $10. Ask the lady ahead of time if a hand job is OK because they will offer. It's about the price of the massage. Get the right girl and she will offer to take care of your lady too.

Have fun!!!!

We are very much not party/club people, we specifically want to experience the culture and the sites. so thats perfect.

No old ladies man. Most are very pretty

And yes, massages ranged from 7-17/hr. Amazing!

Is that what you did to celebrate your wedding?

We shall remind you he is going there on honeymoon.

That thing one does right after marriage, with their newly acquired wife.

Just sayin'
I actually know several swinger couples personally, one of which that honeymooned to Amsterdam specifically to enjoy the working girls together.

I don't judge. Different strokes for different folks (pun intended).
But that's definitely not my scene, I'm no into sharing, so only fair I'm not into being shared.

I'll enjoy the fuck out of a massage, but gotta keep the hands off the goods or the wife will get us both thrown in jail.

Fair enough.
I would agree with your lady, though.
Regardless of where in the world you go, it will be the two of you on a new adventure, so it will be good, I am sure.

Been there dozens of times. Own a condo in Bangkok now, these are my favorite places to stay in the areas you're interested in.

If you're ever gonna to spring for business class this is the trip. Can be done for around $3500/ticket. JAL, ANA, or Singapore Airlines. Avoid any US carrier.

Schedule your activities using Viator.com

Waldorf Astoria when you arrive in Bangkok. Most incredible hotel breakfast. 4 nights .

Fly to Chiang Mai (easy and cheap via Thai Smile or VietJet)

Akyra Manor, perfectly located, 3 nights

Fly to Krabi

Rayavadee.com (incredible, world class, best beach I've ever been to in the world) you'll never forget this place) , 4 nights. Immediately go to activities office and sign up for snorkeling trip and another excursion that includes lunch on the private island. Ask for "Bond" to be your tour guide. Tell him the 50 yo American. with big muscles, beard and 20 yo girlfriend sent you. He'll know who you're talking about :)

Fly to Bangkok, stay a night and fly home.

I can go into all the detail you like on pricing, how to get the best deals, and lesser priced alternatives if you prefer.

Hit me up for advice.

Came out with my thoughts too stern. My bad.

Listen, I read your travel advice and it was funny.
But I thought "if the suggested that to my husband I would exterminate him".
Lol.

Cool you and your wife had a good time and you shared it here.
The lack of toilet paper you mentioned sounds interesting...

Different strokes. I speak a lot geared toward humor and also truth. I realize not everyone is wired the same way. While ppl may not choose to enjoy the same things as me, I hope they can at least get a kick (or chuckle) out of me talking about my experiences.

All good!

And I seriously came home and bought a bidet toilet seat. I decided I really like being really clean lol. Coincidentally, that was right before the "US toilet paper crisis" lol

To the OP, if the masseuse "accidently" brushes up against your junk, just know, it wasn't an accident. They are just politely opening the door to see if your interested in stepping through

I've been to Thailand many times in the past 13 years - mainly to Bangkok and Phuket.

Phuket has been invaded by Russians especially since the war started. Even the Russians I know, perceive this as something annoying. Phuket still is a great place though with many nice hotels.
My advice: blissful Sunday brunch at V Villas Mgallery every first and last Sunday of the month

Most likely you'll fly in via Bangkok. Stay 2+ nights in one of the great 5 star hotels and pick a roof top bar of your choice for dinner/drinks.
Chatuchak weekend market for a Thai shopping experience with the Mrs.

I really enjoyed Khao Lak and a speed boat trip to an island for snorkeling. Lots of nice boat trips everywhere in Thailand. I wouldn't miss out on that. The more privat and remote, the better.

I've never been to Krabi, would probably be my next. Koh Samui was underwhelming but I'm just n = 1

You'll have a great time.

Tom, many congratulations to you and your wife and best wishes for a happy and serene life together.

I wanted to give you guys something to celebrate your wedding and the only things I could come up with are a song and a poem.

The song is called The Few Things and, probably, not to your taste but maybe your wife will like it (or already knows it?).
It came to mind a couple of Sundays ago and I think it's suitable background noise for cuddles on the sofa/honeymoon.
The lyrics of the chorus are delicious, I think.
It's just a couple of lines, but they are cute.

The poem is by Pablo Neruda; it's just the last part of the sonnet and it is the most beautiful thing (there is also another one I love, but chose this one, for you guys).
If I had to use someone else's words to tell someone I love them, unconditionally, these are pretty close to perfection:

"I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way than this:
where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep".

Lots of love.

This is all spot on. Phuket is not a place to go if you’re looking for a cultural experience, unless your idea of that is watching Russians in sun shirts haggling harder than they should over $0.10

Thank you very much! This was so sincere we both really appreciated it.
