How effective is intermittent fasting?

for fat loss, its no better then any other regimented calorie deficit you can follow over a prolonged period of time.

Health-wise it can have some positive metabolic effects if you are insulin resistant or other diseases related to obesity.
This. It’s no magic bullet like it’s supporters claim. It’s at effective as the deficit or surplus it puts you in.

And how does this affect insulin resistance both in the short term and in the long term?

I have been doing IF on and off this past year. I like it and it works for me and my body type. I have a job that might require me to be up at weird hours and I hate starving at that time. I do not hold to my fast on training days because I need fuel. It may work for some and for specific time periods.

Thanks for sharing Va_JJ, you clearly know what works for you and how to apply IF the best way possible. Great stuff.

You can try it and see how your body responds. I don’t think it is a cure all and might work for beginners looking to trim down. I don’t think it is fully sustainable in the long run, but something that is a good tool to employ. Also, I ran across a study that talked about IF boosting natural GH production. I don’t have it in hand and I have never pulled blood before and during an IF cycle.

That's interesting...I'll need to burn some candles to research then....lol
