im trying to gain some lean mass. and also cut a lil bit of fat and im wondering how often i should be running? i do the eliptical 3 times a week for 30 min. is that ok? or should i be doiing more/less? thanks

Diet is key here.
Cardio is ok but diet is key.
Modify your diet and you wont even need to do cardio.

I think the best kind of cardio is something like wind sprints, tabats, etc, this will raise GH in the body and this is where fat burning is excellerated.

This thinking needs to go right now. I'm sorry, but a mindset such as this will keep you within 5-10 lbs. of where you are now for the next 10 years. Building muscle takes excess calories. Losing fat takes sub maintenance calories. Please explain to me just how you intend to do both at the same time.

Granted it can be done with a VERY good genetic profile, on a rank beginner, or with great drugs and good genetics. But I GUARANTEE the same people who fall into the preceding categories, would get to where they want faster by choosing to either gain mass or lose fat.

If everyone would put away the mirror for a couple years, they could attaing the mass they need along with a little fat. Teaching your body to accept the new mass by having it around for some time, will also aid immensely in its ability to keep it while you diet off the fat. And dieting off 30 lbs. of fat can be done so much faster than building 30 lbs. of actual muscle tissue.

I don't mean to pick on this poster, as we live in a society that doesn't look to well upon the overweight. But if you have the mental fortitude to ignore the whispers and looks, you can easily reach a point 2-3 years from now, that you'll never reach in 15 years of "building muscle while losing fat."
