How much ya skwaat?

You took a long, long time getting set up at the top after you unracked, man... If I can't get it within a couple of seconds, I usually re-rack, wait a few seconds and start again.
Get your body position solid before you unrack it at all, then try to get set in either 2 or 3 steps backward. Make sure you've got your lungs as full as fuck and torso fully braced... Then.... Squat!
Yeah man, everything about that lift was wrong. Like I said, my head wasnt in the game at all... I wasn't even sure I would make parallel on the second rep.

That 385 might as well have been a world record that day.

345x5x3 raw at 255lbs BW. Never tried a 1RM. Would like to hit 405 by the holidays.

Question:

Ass to Grass squats, is there any way to avoid the stress on the lower back and erectors when you bury yourself in the hole? It's done as a ballistic movement. Meaning your coming with speed and sitting as far down as the weight will push you. This is how I do them. Oly style. When I watch vids of oly lifters power cleaning they come down with 400,500+ lbs and they look like they take the same impact. As I get stronger I'll be closing in on a 405 front squat (for 5 reps) hopefully by the end of my cycle. I'm definitely on pace. With hard work I hope to reach it. It gives me a new drive in training. Once again realizing my own strength that I set on the back burner for a long time. It's really fun. But my lower back and erectors are stressed to the max doing this. Some here know about my struggles with back pain and is the biggest reason I now front squat. Suggestions?

That's on mobility and flexibility. Those guys that you watch go like that spend a lot of time working on mobility and are incredibly flexible to boot. More flexible hamstrings will help with the lower back feeling as its tight hamstrings that pull your pelvis rounding your lower back and giving "butt wink" which is the cause of the lower lumbar pain during squatting (or improper bracing technique but I believe you know how to brace your core if you are front squatting that much weight.) also being able to open up your hips so you can essientially sit inbetween your legs at the bottom will give you a more vertical back angle and help with errectors issues. This isn't something most get though I'm really flexible and still can't quite squat like the oly guys do my body just isn't built like that no matter how hard I try but I don't have any pain nor am I ever worried about back injury

I could use more flexibility. I'll admit

If lower back in your squat is your main issue then I'd focus mainly on hamstrings and also use a foam roller on them before you start squatting so they are primed to stretch. The big thing with butt wink is its a battle between your lower back and hamstrings for strength trying to keep it neutral but if you're hamstrings won't stretch then you're lumbar will never win cause your hammies are the strongest muscle you have

Adding Romanians have helped a ton in keeping my hamstrings honest. The stretch is nice. Feels good

Just did 5x5 with 370 easy in sleeves and did 445x3 with wraps the other day.

Nice one bro. My Squat was dropping and I thought it was down to coming off and cutting and all kinds of excuses. Then 2 days ago, boom, it just came out clean, 385 pounds with form. It was all down to setting up and getting into the waist belt. I find I need to breath two quick bursts and then one hard into the belt, back out of the rack, then two quick and a hard, drop my ass down (not my upper back) down in the hole, and then Keep tension, keep tight under the belt to explode back up.

That form fix - or the loss of it rather - was worth 50 pounds, close to 15% off my PR.

Love squat, need to beat out 50 reps on squat days, one full hour of praying at the altar (=cage). Form meets power Meets CNS meets a full metal mental fuck-up to drop down in the hole with confidence.

Squat has been the hardest lift for me to learn and progress on. It's finally moving up again quickly though. Should hit 495 raw and mid 500's in wraps by the end of this cycle.

Did 405 for a 4x3 sleeveless after working my snatch technique for 45 mins, probably could do 405 for a solid 5 sleeveless and if I could get my SBD sleeves on probably 6 or 7

I kinda have the same question, but didn't know how to word it. I've been debating going back to FS because my lower back KILLS for days with anything over 365.. I hit 405x2 and felt I coulda done more if not for my hips / back. It's also the reason I started learning sumo for DLs

That brings me to another question: hip pain. My hips get super tight now on the days following a heavy session... any way to fix this? Would abductor work help this?

Anyhow, here's 3 plates for 10. Was just doing reps with low weight cos of the pain I described.

I tried everything and docd was helping me alot with figuring out the cause for my lumbar pain. Well i know the cause, i have a fucked up back! But didnt know why squats hurt so much. THE ONLY THING THAT HELPED WAS GOING TO FRONT SQUATS

As for the reason why front squats helped so much? If you ask my opinion it's because FS demand I stay nearly vertical in my torso position all the way thru the ROM. Not allowing my back to round. Because I already have a painful curvature of the spine it was exasperated by the weight during squats. On a back squat it's normal to unhinge and bend forward to hit depth. Try that on front squats and your going to fail. That's what I figure.

As for the hip tightness you need to freakin stretch. I'm as bad as anybody. I had my wife help me out today post workout and it felt so much better. It's also a good idea to stretch immediately post workout whether it be squats or anything else

Haven't maxed out in a wile I'm on a 5x5 program 3 days a week
190lbs 10% bf
315 for a 5x5 squat ass to grass with no belt
245 for 5x5 bench
405 for 5x5 dead lift

Got a bit of a set-back the last days. Am really stiff, can't get parallell and it pisses me off and carries over to the concentration on setting up. Had to abort today at 135 kgs ... what's that 330 lbs ... did some stretching instead. Maybe coming off cycle, starting PCT tomorrow (!) has something to do with it.
