My wife works with...I wouldn't call them mentally retarted. I guess i would describe them to be more like the people in One Flew Over The CooCoos Nest :) Crazy people but i love them. They all know me when i stop by,and they all run up to me to shake my hand. They all have their little things they do,like 1 guy always has his hand out asking for someone to slap him 5,1 ladie steals everything she can(even toilet paper :))but she is sweet,1 guy falls asleep standing when someone rubs his nose,1 guy everyone calls the major because he thinks he knows everyone when they come in... Well, they went bowling today,so i stopped by. I knew who this 1 guy was,but i forget names,so i asked my wife what his name was, because i seen him walking around not bowling. He came by to talk and looked happy but looked like he needed a friend. After my wife reminded me of his name, she went on to tell me that he used to work with his brother in construction and was fine until he fell on his head. I don't know why it got to me so much, but i felt so bad. I saw he was by the video game,so i went over put a few quaters in and played with him. He can talk just fine, but he repeats alot of what he says but doesn't LOOK mentally challenged. I figured he would be able to push the buttons on his own but my wife had to help him. He looked like he was more into watching the screen and didn't pay much attention on the controls. I've been around these people many times before but never really got to me before.I guess it's because i was thinking about it more today than any other day. I almost had tears in my eyes while i was driving home. This other big black guy Cleo loves to knit. he just knits one long piece of yarn and never makes it into anything :) he always runs out of yarn,so i keep telling my wife that we need to get him some. It's amazing how much energy they have and how happy they are to just run around. Sometimes i just want to act like a kid again and run around with them :) I get jealous sometimes. Well, that was my day.

And i really hate it when someone talks to these people like their little kids. I talk to them like they are my friends, adults, and that's how i treat them too. reminds me of the people who keep talking louder, because someone who doesn't speak their language can understand them.

that has got to be a very challenging job for your wife.
She likes it better than being in a hospital, even though she'd make more in a hospital. She works in an adultnursing home. She likes her job alot. She saved a clients life one day. He was choking and everyone was so nervous and didn't know what to do but she kept her cool and saved him. his familiy bought her all these presents after that to thank her :-) She is such a small little thing but she takes charge. She got punched in the mouth by a 6' 250lb irish guy who was going through alchohol withdrawls and she just stood there. She didn't go down but she was scared. She didn't blame the guy either because he wasn't in his right mind. They took the guy to the hospital and she was ok. This guy was new and only there 1 day. Even the little ones have crazy strength but they love her so she has nothing to worry about.

Good story MH. Sometimes you have to step back really be thankful your healthy. My wife teaches special ed. Its hard not to get really attached to these kids, some of them have really shitty homelifes and it makes you want to take them home with you....11

I went to my friends house tonight and drank a little. she is crying and pissed at me. I don't know what to say to her right now

I think the reason it may of gotten to you so much is that we are all just one bump o nthe head away from being mentally challenged ourselves.
