how to hit the quads with bad knees

my knees joints are shot so I need a way to work my quads and glutes without over exerting my knees, any suggestions

Squat ass to the grass, full ROM, with neoprene sleeves on your knees. You can purchase these from any CVS, Brooks, or local pharmacy.
 
Knee pain

I work with bad knees all day long! First you have to keep trying different exersizes and find what doesn't hurt at all. Hopefully you can do some kind of compound motion with light weight, and slowly build strengh.Good examples of are Leg presses( feet up all the way to top of platform is less compression on the knee joint ) Squats in the smith machine, ( Feet out in front of you about 6 inches, stick your butt out a little so your not leaning back. Takes alot of the load off your knees this way). Maybe hack squats. you'll have to try.
Again the key is to start from scratch with almost no weight and slowly build!, have patience! The most important thing is to perform whatever works pain free, and build strengh with whatever works for you .

thanks guys, I always loved the feeling after an intense leg workout but my knees crackle somthing awful when I squat up & down or even climb stairs. I have this fear I'm gonna have to get artificial knee joints later on lol :eek:
