how to prepare for powerlifting meet?

in April I would like to compete in a APA powerlifting event. It says that the comp is "drug tested"... How do I plan my next cycle around that? What are they testing for? How do they test? This would be my first official comp. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I believe the APA has a tested and non-tested division. Register for non-tested and don't worry about it. Don't do a tested division if you're on gear. It's not fair to the other natural competitors.
Thanks for the advice doc. I did not know they had 2 classes. I'm die'n to compete in something. Gotta find me something...

Frank why not just lift open division in a none tested fed? You cant really take numbers off that platform when your lifting against natty guys. There are feds that don't test.

I'm all about that. I had no idea they had tested and non tested divisions. I'm all about being fair in a comp. I don't know anything about competing. I only know how to pick up heavy weight and put it down;)
That's why I started this thread so I can get all your guys opinions and insight on the ins and outs of competitive power lifting.
So, what exactly is a fed?

Frank if you're still living where I think you are there's a non-tested USPA meet in Dec in Newport, so not too far away. Got a couple buddies competing in that one.
That would be sweet! Hopefully the timing would coralate with mine, cuz I'm gonna be back "on" in January. I'm still training for PL rite now. So far so good, however, I like it better when I'm "on" ;)
I'm very interested in this meet bro. Thank you for the heads up.

Awesome...if you're gonna sign up I'd suggest doing it as soon as you can.
Looks like that one is limited to only 60 lifters.

Would at least be a good start just to get a feel for how a meet goes, what the judges expect, etc, then you can start hitting it hard with gear for the April meet.
