Suppose it's pretty obvious, most males historically don't contribute to the gene pool. War killing off breeding age males while women survive and breed with whatever is left, Hypergamous females all tryna get the top tier males etc.

Genetic bottleneck much.
 
Last I checked it fit Pareto's law pretty closely. That is, 20% of the males get 80% of the women - at least when it comes to producing children. Based on DNA it's been that way for all of human history.

It has nothing to do with war killing off breeding age males, and everything to do with the preferences of women. In effect, they are willing to share desirable males to have their children. Alpha anyone?
