IM needle sizes and common practices

I tried to research some across the forums and saw a few posts that touched on this but I wanted a more direct opinion/poll from the guys/gals here.

I started on TRT and am slowly dabbling into more gear. I learned how to pin from my TRT clinic and I use IM injections with a 25 gauge 1” needle. My boy was in town visiting and needed to borrow some test so I set him up with my stuff to make sure he hit his dose while he was in town and looked at my needle apprehensively lol. He only uses a 29 gauge 1/2” needle.

I was under the impression that size was only for SubQ not IM. Then I started researching more about the effects of a larger needle and developing scar tissue over time from frequent pinning. Right now I only rotate between my left and right delts so I will add other sites into the rotation, but I guess my question is what gauge and length needle are you guys using to pin IM? Is there a universal standard that the community enjoys to limit the footprint when pinning to prevent eventual scar tissue down the road or am I just looking into this too much?

Thanks in advance.

25g 1”. I rotate 6 sites when on TRT but add more even pinning more often. I’ve always heard that it’s best to only pin one site per week or less to avoid scar tissue.

Variables can be how lean you are, what oil you are using and volume

The fatter, the longer. The thicker the lower gauge. Higher volume = longer and lower gauge.

My test is in MCT. I pin 0.1mg every day. I do this with a 30g 1/2" insulin syringe in my glutes. I'm lean

My injectable L-Carnitine blend is also in MCT, but I use a full ml. So that goes in with a 28g 3/4" thin wall.

thin wall needles have a larger inner diameter for their gauge, they flow a little faster. Like the inside diameter of a 29g thin wall would be comparable to the inner diameter of a 27g regular .

30G for everything, 1inch for oil, half for hgh. I only use a 25-27G when I am pinning 4ML, as the 30G has to have a 1ML syringe behind it.
You have a link to the 30g 1"? I can't find them. I'd love to use those if I could find them. I'd be worried about it breaking off trying to push oil though. Never had an issue?

This is a YMMV thing because injecting is a hassle no matter what, so you have to pick which type of hassle you can live with.

For oils, I've settled on using a different loading and injecting needle. Load with 23G Luer lock needle, pop it off, replace with 30G needle, inject.

Yes it's a little fussy, but it avoids the shit I like less: injecting with large needles, taking forever to draw cold oil with fine needles, having to warm oil every time, and puncturing skin with a fine needle that's already blunted from puncturing a septum. I avoid those annoyances for like $40 extra every year and one extra needle swap when I pin.

Z-track and airlock injection techniques are worth learning.

Amazon has them.

Never once had a worry of thinking the needle would snap off, they aren’t flimsy.

I use 27ga 1/2" 1cc insulin syringe for all my IM injections. I used to use 29ga but just took too long to draw and the needle is a little too bendy for my liking. And I'm too lazy to buy larger needles and syringes just to backfill 29ga insulin syringes. So 27ga it is

Whats wrong with subq?
US Pharma sells Test e subq single use autoinjector pens.

What about using a pen with a 29G 12.7mm/ .5 inch and pinning deltoid? You can filter right into the cartridge.

The pen cart is not chemically compatible with what we have for UGL.
You'd have to use some oil that is not a plasticizer, meaning no MCT and also with zero solvents. US Pharma uses sesame oil.

I have tried a bunch… 30’s are a bit to bendy and thin… i like 27’s and 28’s… got a crap ton of 27 thin walls coming… pretty affordable too

200 ea, nipro 27 1/2” thin wall for $12
200 with syringes for $28

I enjoy seeing the new info out there these days since I'm getting ready to get back into things again.
Back in my day we just used bigger needles all around, but I'm up to trying new ways out.

25 gauge 1" for everything. Lets you use 3ml barrel easier. Right now I inject vastus lateralis, rec fem, and ventro glute. I inject MWF so every site gets 2 weeks rest.

The most important thing is the quality of the needle. The $5 pack of 100 chinese needles on Amazon are going to be way more painful and cause more scar tissue than a high quality one.

what brands do you like?

i draw with 22-25g 1" or 1 1/4"

i pin IM (side & rear delts, pecs, lats, quads) with 30g 1/2"

i pin IM (ventro glute) with the absolute harpoon of 22g 1 1/2"

i have drawn MCT and Grapeseed oil with a 30g needle with no problems, with 0.3ml, 0.5ml, and 1ml syringes.

all my needles are terumo brand, but i recently got a pack of nipro 30g after reading about them here, they work just as well as terumo. i have also used cheap name/brandless chinese 23g needles from amazon to draw with, but not pin.
