Jackasses in the gym

So this all managed to happen in one day, whilest I was at the gym.... yesterday. I'm going in to do my 2nd lower body day in DFHT. Get over to do my cleans and notice a particular guy who is always in there, doing curls, no matter what day I go in. Today, he has company.

I do my warmup and then my three working sets and out of the corner of my eye can see them making some remarks (I was wearing headphones). So then, I load up the squat rack to begin. I do my warmup sets, stretching into the hams to the calves position, when I hear (song had just ended) one of them saying to the other somethign along the lines of he's going to tear up his knees, you should never..... you guys can guess the rest.

Anyhow, I get ready to do my first working set and it goes ok. For my second set, I decide I might need a spot just in case. I look around; no-one. Not a damn person in the whole freaking gym that I would trust to spot me while oly squating. Pathetic. I was only wearing a belt, and just wanted to have some piece of mind.... so I broke down and asked another gym idiot who had been doing shrugs for about 30 minutes (he was probably the strongest other person in there, and maybe knew what a squat was). So anyhow, he watches me for my last 4 sets.

I finish my last set, my blood-pressure is through the roof and I have the tunnel vision, y'all know what I'm talking about. I rack the weight and lean on the bar and no sooner does someone start taping my shoulder. With probably the most ruthless glare I have ever given I turn to this woman who wants the squating tampon that is on the ground, by the wall in behind my rack. I haven't even undone my belt yet, but to get this ho out of my face i toss her one. Then she has the gall to say "tI don't like this one get the other one." now, I'm truely pissed and take it and throw it at her. The only reason I didn't dog cuss her is because of the posibility that she might out rank me, but I digress.

I recover, unload the weight and load up for deads. Doing speed deads at about 65-70% in order to do walk away singles. between my 5th and 6th one, a guy comes over, stands in front of me and says "You know, I've been watching you, and your whole workout out is worthless. You'll never get results doing all of these lifts. All you'll do is hurt yourself." I pushed him out of my way and did my next single. He sort of looked dumbfounded. I glared at him too, and said something along the lines of "how many fucking state records do you hold you little prick." again dumbfounded he said "well, my arms are bigger than yours, and you're not going..." I interupted " get out of my face, not all of us try to do your little pansy BB routines... which by the way don't seem to be working for you." He did and glared in my general direction for a while.

I was beyond pissed yesterday evening. I just can't begin to understand what it is that brings people to act in such a way. Just because your arms may be bigger than mine means squat... well exactly, you can't squat crap because your legs look like pencils.

Sorry about the rant, but stuff like this pisses me off, just as bad as seeing someone bench press with lifting straps on. JUst wanted to share the stupidity of some "lifters" in my neck of the woods.

Yeah bro, and you'll just hurt your back doing deadlifts. Hyperextentions are the way to go if you want to get toned up. :D
 
You know I think DFHT and squats, cleans, and deadlift are absolute crap. lol

ps - good work. It brings a tear to my eye to think that I had something to do with another person doing full squats, cleans, and pulls in the gym.

the thought has crossed my mind.. hehe.... but since I'm a Muay Thai instructer and you fight MMA, it would probably get messy.....

yeah, totally agree with you. Every time I walk into a gym I see people doing retarted things, no matter what they are training for. I've said before and I'll say it again, my main thing now, is seeing people do stuff that will surely get them hurt/injured, but you can't reason with an idiot. It's funny you bring up the trainer thing, I was a PT at my college for three years, but I still don't go around doing that dumb stuff that guy did.

God willing I will, but right now, this gym is free and I can't beat that with a stick. I wish I could find a good training partner out here, but everyone I've seen is definatly not into PL workouts.....

This is kind of off topic, but I don't want to start a new thread...

This douchbag in my gym the other day was arguing with another guy about how he needs to eat more whey protein if he wants to get big. He was like "you have to consume most of your protein from whey protein isolate and Designer Protein is the best brand if you want to make gains." I nearly laughed out loud at him, because in the past I knew a guy who had the biggest hard-on for Designer and he ate like 8-10 scoops a day and was soooo small. His name was Dan, so I always called him "Designer Dan." Anyway, this guy at the gym looked pathetic, but apparantly his advice must be sound and if I only eat more Designer Protein I will make the gains I am looking for. :D Oh yeah, I watched his workout a little and he didn't do a single compound movement and then did abs for like a half hour. Whatever
 
I just got back from the gym a little bit ago. I had to squat in a rack, which I hate because I have to walk out so far to get past those supports so I can do a full range of motion. That little hike saps my energy. Anyway, in the rack next to me is a guy that outweighs me by about 40lbs (maybe more, I suck at those estimates) doing about 60lbs LESS than me, with horrible form, going down to about 45 degrees. Not even half a squat, more like a 1/4. The best part??? He was working with a trainer. LMAO. Thanks to JS and AM's advice. I've been going ass to grass for a little while now. They both stood there and watched me every set. I was praying for one of them to make a comment. Lucky for them. They kept quiet.
 
That is some funny shit guys. See the problem is your gym isn't really where YOU need it to be. I've worked out at a couple of franchise gyms (Gold's and such) and they seem to always have a majority of 150lb professional dumbell curlers (the 150lbs is what the guys usually weigh) wearing their too loose small size Under Armour shirts looking at me like WTF doing pull throughs or some other "strange" exercise. Just find a good local gym that has powerlifters and true bodybuilders in it. That's when life in the gym gets good. BTW, I've done anything from a farmer's walk to heavy good mornings with 3 plates a side (OK, heavy to me) at my gym and never have I had a strange look. :D

Don't forget those heavy dumbell curlers also require the use of a belt so they don't injur themselves. LOL
 
that's one reason i don't go to a gym anymore ... everyone is a pro .. i just look at it this way .. if you can kick my ass then i will listen to your training theories otherwise shut your fuckin hole
