You want 6x8 for your platform 4 feet sounds like a lot but it really isn't in oly lifting so if you go that way go 10x8 because your rack will undoubtably be more then 4' deep if you load plates onto it aswell thenI'm doing one eventually... What I'm going to do is build an 8foot x 8 foot platform and mount the rack in the back of it. That still leaves a 4x4 platform since your rack is roughly 4 feet deep. It also puts your rack on the platform which can come in handy as well.

Hey, @kap73. Space is very much at a premium in my Gym... But my setup has the weight lifting platform either side of the squat rack... So I do squat, bench and deads all in there (no room for OHP, sadly, but I've got a landmine press attachment on one leg of my rack.
So I just have layers of MMA jigsaw matting, MDF, and rubber.... Wood floor in the rack, rubber outside the rack, where the plates touch the floor. Looks neat and saves a lot of space.
No worries... My rack is big enough that I can do anything inside it, if you know what I mean... The only limitation is the short ceiling height... Which is a real pisser.
Excuse to have a separate squatting bar and deadlifting bar.... Fucker!!I can do everything with mine aswell, i just like the idea of having the platform seperate from anything. Ceiling for us should be around 2550mm at the lowest point and in the centre of shed around 3050mm
You're pissing all over me there... Mine is a consistent 2,100mm and even for my trex arms, that's a bit low...

It's mine and I love it.
Nobody but me and my Bro go in there.... Noone to wait for, noone to watch out for... My gym, my rules. Boom.
What are you doing for heating and cooling? I could do without the cooling as long as there was flowing air hell it never hurts to sweat but stepping into that building in the dead of winter with no heat would sap me of any kind of motivation I may have had.
Dont forget the T-bar Row ... Too many gyms are missing those .
And a standing calf raise machine !Goodluck
