Kebby crimper vs cheaper Chinese crimpers.

Greetings,

EDIT: I need to find the Kebby anti corrosive crimper.

I have had a Kebby crimper for a long time, but it needs to be replaced. The Kebby's are made in America and of course high quality. However they are nearly $200 (actually more on medlab supplies).

Amazon has much cheaper crimpers (20 mm) for 40 bucks.

Does anyone have experience with the cheaper Chinese crimpers? I am thinking that this might be an area where I don't want to cut corners...however if the Chinese crimpers work well for a few years they would be worth the savings.

Thanks!

EDIT: My apologies for not doing a better search. I saw pics of the Kebby vs Chinese crimps and the Chinese are terrible.

However I have only found the regular Kebby's, not the anti corrosives.

Check ebay for Kebby 20mm flip off crimpers, and for the unbranded versions that look identical to the Kebby that take the Kebby heads.

There’s one of the unbranded versions on ebay right now for $30 + shipping. It looks a bit rough, but they say it functions well.

There’s also another one on eBay that’s not labeled as a flip off crimper, but the pictures show that the head is the flip off head. It’s for $123.25 and it looks brand new. They have a make offer option, so maybe they’ll take $50 or???

I wish I could give you some insight to the lower cost crimpers, but I’ve only used Kebby.

Thank you, but it is not worth taking the chance on the lower cost crimpers. I bought a Kebby from Amazon for $201 tax/shipping out the door. My current one lasted for 10 year.

Thank you all who hold the line on flip-off caps.

That flip-up shit is trash, I cannot for the life
of me understand why anyone uses
those. You can't push the cap down as a "cover", and tearing it off leaves razor edges or rips the whole damn collar off.

My Kebby Micro XL4300 has had quite the workout over the years for both 10ml and 3ml vials and it’s still going strong. I also use the Kebby decapper and it’s also been great.

Unless you're selling the vials, what are you risking? The crimp itself isn't that important/complicated, you can get a functional crimp with a pair of pliers.

The only brand I havent had that problem is with the REAL west pharma flip off caps. I hate when you pop off a top and leaves those jagged edges. Med lab supply has “premium” flip offs and they fucking suck!

I got a shit Chinese crumpet that came with vials n stoppers I think it worked for one brew! Then I ordered another it has lasted a long time now I just have to tighten the screws once and a while it was another one that came with vials on Amazon so I’d say just luck of the draw…it works well and those bottles and stoppers r shit too! I’d just order a couple on Amazon and return the ones that don’t work as good
