Kinda Semi New

Hi, I'm Jamaal. Age 27, 6'1", 195 lbs, about 6% bodyfat (currently). I'm not that new as I've been a lurker for years and years, but I figure it's time to make some friends around here. I'm starting a serious 2016 push to get to 225 without putting on inordinate amounts of bodyfat, so I guess I need all the support/encouragement/assistance I can get as the idea of switching cardio time with feeding time is a little scary. Change is scary. But good. I typically lift 5-6 days a week, doing Stronglifts 5x5 two of the days. The other days are a split I've worked out from years in the gym. Always jump rope before and after hitting the gym. I sprinkle cardio and other fitness activities throughout the week as I can -- hiking, yoga, a five mile run, basketball, pilates, old school aerobics with an old videotape etc etc. Ready to gain, I think.

Happy holidays and happy new year to all.

Welcome bro. Nice intro. Yoga is something I've been considering lately as well. I figure it'll help my flexibility and decrease chances of an injury in the weight room.

I really encourage people to give it a try. It doesn't fit my schedule right now but it's a great recovery day kind of thing. You feel like you're walking away from a full body massage once you're done with a session.

Sorry to hijack thread! Welcome to meso Jamaal. You sound like you have lots of good information to contribute, there is definitely guys on here that'll help push you to that 225 you want. Best of luck.

Welcome to Meso bro. Nice intro btw. Very informative, just the way we like it. Enjoy your stay my man an good luck on achieving every goal you have set for yourself!!!!!

Yoga changed my life. Sunday morning class like clockwork -- it's a form of fitness church.

It's not magic like the yoga-heads claim, but my experience is improved overall well-being. But it depends on what kind of yoga.

In a spiritual sense, to me anyway it's like tai chi. It physically makes you feel better because energetically there are movements which we visualize and actually feel our own energy field and strengthen both physical and spiritual aspects of self. I've been trying to fit it into an already busy schedule

Welcome. I had the same reservations and delimas about adjusting my brain to a
'surplus" of calories. When it finally came time to do it though it was super easy.

When your mission changes, you will still execute and complete the mission.

I hope so. I get a high from cardio though -- so I'm not thrilled about cutting back. But. I want the prize haha

Even in a "bulk" I lift in the morning, and go get a quick mile at night. (I don't trust a surplus of carbs THAT much;)) and do crossfit 2 days a week. But crossfit is also where I lift the heaviest, off a percentage of 1RMs, in the strength range. It's where I set new PRs.

I'm sure you already know, since it's pretty basic stuff, that 30 minutes or less of cardio isn't going to havy any significant catabolic (losing muscle) effects if you're surplussing calories... So if you're ON gear, you're really good to go.

Just switch it up...HIIT
sprints, swim, row. Throw in some sled/prowler work and strongman cardio like stones, yoke, farmers walk, fireman carry. You can retain mass and strength like this, especially enhanced. Throw some pics up man I'd love to see what 6% looks like on your frame, I don't think I've ever been that lean.

"were" u at USC?

^ Yes I was at The University of South Central haha

I was at 3% in high school when I was playing ball and running x-country. And eating everything I wanted. Crazy.

So I don't think 6% is that lean but I prob have body dysmorphia at this point. I'll think about throwing up pics -- I have identifiable tatts.
