So what is an older guy that's abused his already shitty knees for years supposed to do? My knees have started to sound like I'm twisting a T-bone steak between two pairs of pliers when I squat, and it's putting a serious limit on the weights that my muscles are capable of. I just ordered wraps on the advice of the ol' lady who was actually paying attention to sports medicine practices while I was screwing off. She said that sleeves probably aren't going to help at this point, and I'm inclined to agree. Thoughts?
As bad as it may suck to hear, you may need to give up on heavy leg lifting temporarily, perhaps permanently. You can get decent leg size and strength doing far less stressful activities and lifts with your legs. My dad injured both knees in the fire department in his 20s and refused to ease up on them, and nowadays he's in his late 50s hobbling around and constantly going through surgeries and pounding meds just to stay functional. He'd do anything to get his knees health again but he passed that point of no return. At a certain point the risk isn't worth the reward.
