Knee Wraps

So what is an older guy that's abused his already shitty knees for years supposed to do? My knees have started to sound like I'm twisting a T-bone steak between two pairs of pliers when I squat, and it's putting a serious limit on the weights that my muscles are capable of. I just ordered wraps on the advice of the ol' lady who was actually paying attention to sports medicine practices while I was screwing off. She said that sleeves probably aren't going to help at this point, and I'm inclined to agree. Thoughts?

As bad as it may suck to hear, you may need to give up on heavy leg lifting temporarily, perhaps permanently. You can get decent leg size and strength doing far less stressful activities and lifts with your legs. My dad injured both knees in the fire department in his 20s and refused to ease up on them, and nowadays he's in his late 50s hobbling around and constantly going through surgeries and pounding meds just to stay functional. He'd do anything to get his knees health again but he passed that point of no return. At a certain point the risk isn't worth the reward.

:banghead:

That's the last thing I want to hear. I'm going to see how they feel wrapped, and go from there. In the last couple years I've gone super clean living, and pushing my body to the breaking point is really all I've got left. I'd rather eat my gun than give it up, but I don't want to prematurely ruin myself if I can help it.

Point taken mate. I'll take it easy... Next week.

With any luck you'll be able to rehab your knees and be good to go after a while, I've just seen what wearing them too far does to your quality of life and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

If something hurts ditch the exercise, plain and simple. Aging happens, it's just part of life. Longevity in the gym should be key, not just squats. Knee wraps are nothing more than a spring to help you pretend your stronger than you really are.

I have lots of knee damage, osteoarthritis, etc. When my knees are really screwing with me, I like to wrap above and/or below the knee to compress the tendon where it slides under the patella. It doesn't prevent the pain, but it takes the edge off. I feel like it helps more than the patellar tendon, but I don't know why that is.

I use to have bad knee problems, rolling with a 3" PVC or Acupressure with one of those little hand held knobbers all over the leg esp just above the knee area on the outside and just below the knee fixed that, I roll right before and after a workout, no surgery and it was free.
