left and right reversed...

hey bros, i was speaking with a vendor the other day regarding the left vs. right thing. during our conversation, it became apparent to me that somehow there has been a role reversal that has taken place here. namely, the right wing has assumed the role of common politics, of commonality of american politics. by this i mean, it is now the right wing that's saying, 'we should judge a man by the content of his character, not the color of his skin', which is what martin luther king said while the left wing that is saying, 'no, no, we should judge a man by the color of his skin, not by the content of his character.'

i'll give you an example. today it's become very fashionable, and not just in universities either, to believe that only people of the same exact type as you, whatever the fuck that means, can think about you and your needs and your history, and so on. this is just the opposite of the left wing credo that promotes unity across gender and race lines. and some people on the right insist that it's possible for everybody to aspire to the same good and to arrive at the truth. again this is in direct contrast to the traditional right wing ethos which was separatist. to me, this is a very curious and very important reversal that has come about.

what's going on here?

that is true. it is b/c this country has lost all common sense

I think the possible answer lies in two seperate areas. First politics runs off of publicity and if you say the same old thing there is nothing new to report and therefore no attention. Second, right and left is dead. Most, I think, lie some where in the middle which will water down the excessive views.

hey moral, how are ya bro? not sure about your first point. politics also runs off of some sort of stability or continuity. flip-flopping is a sure way to get attention, negative attention. you'll get called on it if you're in politics and flip-flopping over issues.

as to your second point, i don't think that right and left are dead. not at all. they have undergone a role reversal to the point where each has appropriated the others agenda. my original question is why has this happened? why the new ideology? what purpose is this serving and for whom? why is the left moving away from the ethos of the common culture and becoming fragmented into the gay left, the black left, the women's left, etc? why is the right embracing an ideology such as affirmative action?

i dont know how to answer about the change. but it seems to me that the left...fucking liberal hippies...are all full of shit.

end of story.

have a nice day

ok, but on a more serious note, i think this proves that the left is playing the sympathy card...."you need special rights because you're a woman", "a black", "an indian"(feathers, not dot). hell...everyone likes to get special treatment. so the left plays towards this.

i think that the right was wrong in the 50's and 60's with their separatist point of view. now that the right has finally started seeing the light and believes everyone should be equal, and therefore everyone should be judged on their merit and character....the left wants nothing to do with this. they want equal but separate. equal rights under the law, but special laws for certain groups. take the homo's for instance. years back, a gay kid was murdered in wyoming or montana. so what happened? the govt passed a law saying it was illegal to murder homos...the whole "hate crime bill" bullshit. imagine my surprise when i heard about this. i though murdering people was already illegal. and "hate crimes"? arent crimes usually commited by one persone hating another? so you the outcome of the hate crime bill was that you get more prison time for killing someone during a hate crime. so you kill someone. if they are of the same sexual persuasion as you, same color, same religion....its 20 years in the state penn. if that person was a different color, or the guy sucked dick and you didnt, and you happen to ahve killed him....now its 30 years in the state penn(i dont know exactly what the penalty is, but you get the point). so, now the fags want equal rights, but they want special protection. the blacks want equal rights, but they want special services and college scholorships. the women...well shit, they never should've been let out of the kitchen in the first place :)!!

this is what the left is doing. its not enough that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. its not enough because now the left has nothing else to bitch about. so...they start a new thing. the new thing now happens to be special privileges to certain groups of people.

yep...the left ALWAYS knows whats best for us.

have a nice day

joe, excellent point about the right moving towards the center to recapture lost ground. i agree. as a result, the left has lost ground. i'd like to make a comment about the left as well. since losing ground, the left has tried to recoup and since the right has become the defender of common culture, the left now feels obligated to take a polar opposite stance.

they feel they can capitalize on the heterogeneous fabric of american society and gain support and power in that way. that's why you have them defending special groups and, as joe said, advocating special privileges and laws for said groups. the idea they are trying to get across is that the right has no respect for the differences between these people. the left, on the other, is sensitive and responsive to those differences.

again, the motivation behind the actions of the left, imo, have their root in regaining lost ground, in seizing power. the right, on the other hand, is attempting to bolster the concept of 'american culture', to unify americans of different descents and backgrounds under one common culture just at it is with all other nations. imho, what the right is doing is more culturally healthy than what the left is trying to do. in a day and age when the us is under a global attack, what we need is the strengthening of our beliefs in a common culture if we are to survive as nation.

the left, on the other, is sensitive and responsive to those differences.

i agree. funny though...since it was the left that always fought for equality. now they're suddenly against it.

the right, on the other hand, is attempting to bolster the concept of 'american culture',

correct. i have no problem, and i actually think its a good idea, to have cultural diversity and keeping ones heritage. i'm an immigrant too. but the very thing that made this country great..."the melting pot"...is whats helping us destroy it. everyone wants to come to america, but noone wants to be an american. fuck that!! get your ass out of here then.

african american....asian american.... italian american....bullshit. we should all be americans first. dont ever give up your heritage, but fight for whats right in the country that you're living in, and do whats best for the same said country. you're not an african-frenchman in france. there are no asian-italians in italy. only in this country can this shit happen. poitical correctness my friend. its taking us all down.

have a nice day

YES, YES!!! that's exactly what i said to the vendor during our original discussions. there is no such thing as these hyphenates in other countries. you're mexican, french, portuguese, etc. that's it. period. good call joe. the left fucked things up in their attempt to accumulate power over the past 40, or so, years and now they are fucking things up even more trying to gain more power.

The parties have flipflopped historically. Lincoln was a republican. They were liberal at the time. Can you see a republican today freeing the slaves? LOL
