Legality of open source boards?

It's a pretty fine line though isn't it? I mean what is it when a mod says that someone is GTG, or that they have excellent shipping, or tells everybody how great the quality is? I know its not a referral, but its certainly a recommendation.
Then there's the whole issues of money changing hands for ad space, and favors for censoring negative feedback...... It's aiding the transaction isn't it?
In a roundabout way all that an open source board is, is a big referral service for noobs.

Good points. It's a fine line like many other legal situations are... I think if a mod is sharing their own personal experience that is ok. I think much has to do with the location of the Boards servers. There are a few source boards that are on domestic servers. That's easy picking for LE.

Censoring negative feedback is a scummy thing to do anyway ;)
