Ever hear of this? My uncle has a clogged artery by his heart and his doc says to get on low carb diet because something that begins with a T is high and low carbs will lower it. triglycerides! Damn i just thought of it and my sister said that's it. She just couldn't rememeber the word. So how does the low carb diet work for this? anyone know?

Fats and oils, which are composed of triglycerides, serve as stored energy reserves in plant and animal cells. Each triglyceride is composed of three fatty acid molecules bonded to one glycerol molecule. When an organism has excess energy available from food or from photosynthesis, it may use that energy to form stores of triglycerides. These can later be broken down to yield energy when the organism needs it. Fats and oils contain twice as much stored energy, per unit of weight, as carbohydrates or proteins

Why he would put him on a low carb diet for triglyceride control is beyond me. Maybe by lowering the carb levels in the blood you would burn up more tri's. Still it would make more sense to go on a low fat diet with moderate carbs.

I was reading about it yesterday right after i posted and it seems that carbs can also higher...increase.. whatever you wanna call it. they also increase triglycerides, which may be why guys who drink alot of beer have high Tris, other than the alchohol itself raising them and also why ... well, basically it makes sense because any excess calories not used as energy will be converted to triglycerides and stored as fat. All i needed to do was read,i was just being lazy yesterday :D ............. From HEALINGDAILY.COM ...........Contrary to popular belief, a low fat diet is NOT the solution to lowering high triglycerides levels. The researchers Van Horn and Lichtenstein extensively reviewed the low-fat approach a few years ago (5). Their research suggests that a low-fat diet will produce a result opposite to the desired effect: triglyceride levels will actually increase. This phenomenon is not surprising if one considers that insulin resistance may be one of the driving factors behind elevated triglyceride levels. In fact, insulin resistance may be the cause of many of the problems observed in high-triglyceride states.(6,7)

Still think low fat, moderate carb is the way to go. That way there is no "extra energy" to convert to fat. The body once again seems to be seeking homeostasis. It detects a lowering of fat in the blood so it increases the enzymes for converting carbs and protein into fat.
Off topic- Do you know the album, "Greetings from Asbury Park." ? I used to work in the Palace(The building in the background of the cover picture). What part of Jersey are you floating around in?

I saw Pink Floyd(1973) at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City. They did the Dark Side of the Moon album plus some of the older stuff. I know Roosevelt Stadium has been torn down since then but I'll never forget that concert. When it was over half the crowd stared into space for half an hour:D.
