low dhea

They say taking DHEA pills is hard to get into your blood stream because it gets done in in you stomach I was low and asked my Dr. if the pills would work he said yes if you can find a good supplement most are not what they say they are. I got this.

My Dr. said to take it before I eat. My DHEA went from 99 to 406 range 80 to 560 DHEA -SO4 ug/dl. So now I take one pill every other day and my levels are at 284. But I don't feel any different.

It can but I have a question are you on T meds for a level this low. I take Indolplex/DIM to keep my Estreaiol in check.

I wouldn't take more than 25mg BID, or it will elevate E. Now when I see DHEA levels are low in my patients (or low-normal) I do recommend this dose. SHHHHH! Don't let jboldman hear this!

DHEA does has benefits, especially with respect to immune function. It's hard to separate the effects of low DHEA from those of low testosterone generally, but DHEA is active at many recptors on its own.

You are also not supposed to take it before working out. The exact reason why is escaping my memory right now, but I remember an expert at an A4M conference lecture stating this.

What's this? I always that my morning DHEA dose before the gym!

Well, i'll be darned! I never thought i would see the day. :)

This is progess and a good sign, i am impressed.

I have read every study published on dhea on medline and can not recall any protocol precluding taking before workouts or any other time for that matter, so i guess that i would have to agree with ANY time it is recommended to take it.

They do make a micronized dhea that is reported to be more bioavailable.

Bis In Diem. Twice a day. So 50 mgs total a day, 25 mgs twice a day? Is it twice a day to maximize DHEA levels or to minimize the estrogen production?

I started taking it every day but when my tests came back I went from a low normal to a high normal. So now I take it every other day.

Dang! Now I'll never hear the end of it!

Actually, jboldman, the first patient I put on DHEA 25mg po BID, came back a month later, complaining of "a lack of erections" and loss of body hair. When queried further, he said specifically pubic hair. I asked how much he had lost, and he stated, "Well, you can see my vagina now".

Yes, be careful with DHEA or it will elevate your estrogen levels!

gamer--Whatever you do, be consistent. Use the same amount every day. The half life is not long enough to space it out like that. The body thrives on regularity.

I cannot remember who the doctor was who said that, it may have been Stepehn Sinatra, MD or Michael Klentze, MD PhD. The lecture was moving along so fast I did not write down the reason why. However, I do remember WHATEVER th ereason it was a good idea (maybe the hangover wasn't helping), so will go with that. I'll ifnd out why in August at the A4M International Congress.

:)

just goes to show! Next it will be group hugs right doc? :) I blame it on that primal urge for homeostasis, a constant drive to meet at the midpoint and bring equilibrium.

I use 25mg Tabs so you can break them into any dose if you should so desire. I was actually using 50mg per day (25mg 2x/day) before SWALE on my own. It definitely helped with fatigue although not a whole lot. Swale lowered me to 25mg b/c of potential to raise estrogen and due to the fact we just don't know enough about DHEA at this time. On my next bloodwork, my DHEA levels were on the low side and my estrogen was fine so he said I could go back to 50mg. That combined with the new higher dose of TEST (140mg/week) and I'm actually feeling pretty good most of the time as long as I eat very well and get a decent amount of sleep.

For what it is worth. I have been using DHEA for a few years. 50mg / day. My DHEA level on the last test was 423 , 95/530 normal. And my E2 level is still below the normal range. Go figure.

That is no surprise, buck. This is what is SUPPOSED to happen.

50mg of DHEA a day is SUPPOSED to Not raise your E levels? And keep your E levels below the range?

There is not a single study in the medical literature where 50 mg of dhea has raised e beyond high normal. In fact, i can only find one study that 100mg a day raised e levels to high normal, so , yes, 50 mg for most would seem an appropriate dose. It seems anecdotally here that 50 might be too much for some, but as general rules go..........

Was just wondering as I thought Swale's view was that DHEA can/would raise E levels. Yet mine come out at 8-10 on the the blood test whether I am using DHEA or not.
