Low dose deca- water retention question

Howdy!

First my question for the TLDR crowd, then detailed info for the harm reduction and scientist crowd to pick on me or answer better given more info:

On 80mg/week Deca (as an experiment in old fart joint comfort) would you expect to see water weight come on? How much and after how much time?

Details and background:
6’ 3” 259lbs total, 210 lean mass 47yo
Training sleep and diet are dialed in- 1950cals, 220g protein, 5 day split, walking.

Water intake is ok I usually hit .75-1.25 gal/day. Tracking lifts, dexa, bloodwork, body measurements. Recent bloods are better than ever. 25-30lbs left to cut then maintainance/true TRT health cruise planned for the summer. Lost 115lbs fat and gained 20lbs lean mass in the past 2-3 years of steady discipline, 90% just on TRT, recently went to a mild stack to hopefully continue to recomp as things get harder under 20%bf. Still mild but a little wild for me- I prioritize health but only plan on around 20ish weeks on this stack. Have experience with managing mild higher blasts, including test, mast, and NPP in the past. Not expecting miracles still just looking for 1-1.25lbs fat/week and hoping to continue to grow or at least not lose strength if possible while chasing my leanest ever.

Current stack about a month in:
Split mon weds fri:
300 test Cyp
100 mast

Split Tues Fri
80 deca (new only 2.5 weeks in)
2.5 reta

Split AM PM

I had like two odd days of sneakers feeling tight since I started GH but I think it was salt & water intake related- no other water sides, wedding ring still loose. Sleep like a baby.

I’ve experienced like 10lbs water on and offboarding NPP but have no deca experience and this is such a low dose (but hopefully high enough to notice joint improvement if not much else?) and from what I’ve read deca takes forever before you notice anything even at true cycle dosages? Same with on cycle water retention?

So now that I wrote a boring novel about myself in case details would be helpful to way smarter and more experienced folks. I’d love to hear anybody’s experience with water weight on different doses of deca. Obviously we’re all different but it can be helpful to hear about other people’s results, and I’m curious plus searching didn’t turn up anything on this specific topic.

So I know GH is known for water retention related sides- I don’t seem to really be having any. My cutting has been progressing normally as far as the bathroom scale goes- no bloodwork since I started GH about three and a half weeks ago and did two months tesamorelin before that- Igf-1 went up to 306 or something high normal.

Really my question is more because NPP had such a dramatic water retention on cycle- 10 lbs came then went with the drugs, gained 18 total ended up keeping 7 lean muscle.

So since deca is just the long ester version but is supposed to be sneaky coming on I wonder if I will have sneaky water weight onboarding? Or maybe 80mg is too low to notice? Gonna give it a while to settle in, maybe bloods and dexa after 6-7 weeks to see…

In my experience you're more likely to experience water retention issues from the GH than you are from the deca at that dose. I did a similar thing to you as far as deca use goes except I dosed at 100mg per week. I didn't notice any water weight issues at that dose. I ran it for 20 weeks and experienced 0 drop in weight after coming off keeping everything else the same.

How much NPP were you running?
 
Hey- thanks for the real world info. Ten lbs on and off with NPP is around 150-200 for me but also ran test at 400-450 and mast 100-150.
Oh and I just did an inbody at the gym- those are a wild ass guess compared to dexa which is only an educated guess, but my extracellular water to total body water ratio was slightly higher than in range at .396- natty I’m .387

So I’m holding some water, but no real sides from it- no pitting edema in my calves, wedding ring fits the same, no moon face or anything. But also I’m 19% bf at the moment so it’s not like I have a crazy defined 6 pack that got blurry

Dont know obese guys try to overcomplicate shit. Youre just not in a position to blast heavily and any "cutting" compound which just aids hardness or vascularity will be essentially useless for you. Just run TRT and crush your appetite with glp1s.

Well I’m up to 213 fat free on the dexa last week and down to 17% fat. My goal to hit 12% and maintain over summer will bring me just over 240lbs which at 6’ 3” is still technically obese, so you aren’t wrong. But you’re still coming off like a dick who’s lecturing a teenager.

My TRT is 200mg/week which got me from 355lbs to 270 and since October I’m running 300/week to try and recomp as deep into my cut as possible, and it’s working. Also been running 80 deca per week which has been smoothing my joints nicely for continued hard workouts.

I’m not sure where you get the idea that I’m blasting “cutting” compounds in the interest of cutting faster? And I don’t need to crush my appetite I’ve lost about 120lbs fat and gained about 20 muscle over the past few years just tracking calories and macros and lifting 5x/week.

Great progress you’ve made. I’m incorporating some low dose deca in my trt next week, these old joints are killing me, especially in my knees. Was the deca a huge help?

No it was a small help but my right arm and leg are made of screws and plates and my right knee and elbow may or may not have any cartilage in them, so a little help is big. No sides, no additional strength, didn’t hit bloodwork noticably so everything is kinda going as planned with it. I will say my treadmill performance has increased on the deca though- as I leaned out my joints have become the thing that stops me from running for extended periods, not my wind/heart. I can run longer now before the knee and ankle scream at me for sure.

I just recommended what's best for your position. The best thing you can do as an obese dude is get to a leanish body fat as soon as you can and then enter a gaining phase. And yes, trying to push superphysiological androgen levels is "blasting", not crazy doses sure, but youre no longer on TRT, simple as.

I’m hesitant on GLPs to “crush hunger” because I take offense to the implication that I’m not capable of strictly controlling my diet, which I am. I take 4mg reta per week but it’s in hopes of helping with insulin sensitivity while on GH and metabolic health in general more than crushing my hunger.

My trt is 200mg test cyp per week- if you say adding100 test and 80 deca is no longer TRT then I fully agree. If you say there is no value in mild TRT+ for smoothing joint performance and retaining tissue or recomping in a cut I fully disagree.

And a blast for me is more like 750-900mg/week of combined exposure.

Last, I’m not an internet tough guy or one to feed the trolls but I peeked at your posts and besides not seeing an intro you seem somewhat intelligent and well intentioned. So I’m not going to lower myself to name calling or get upset, but go bark up another tree. I’m not the one. And I don’t fucking appreciate your obesity comments they are not helpful or well informed.

Maybe when I was 30 and moving safes & pianos & nightclub bouncing at shady afterhours biker spots. I’ve never been one to get mad at internet trolls but in my heyday I would have rather taken a beating than allow disrespect in person. The internet is a wild place full of brave shit talkers.

I’m old now and rebuilding the top half after heinous injuries and getting fat. 20 weeks from done unfatting. Haven’t been in a fistfight in like 15 years and I’m a family man & business owning pillar of the community now. Appreciate you having my back though!

I don’t look like a body builder but I still have wheels- maybe @ProgestegenicWarrior88 wants to post up what his calves look like so I’ll gain some respect for his lean & jacked expertise?

I’m really looking forward to getting under 15% which should be around 6 more weeks. I’ll still be technically obese at that point!
