Make sure you eat your carbs on Reta

I don't care for this guy much. He's very narcissistic and listening to his rants are painful, BUT he is also very knowledgable. I've verified his comments about biochemistry / physiology myself and also had a friend of mine who's a doctor listen to him. He goes into a lot of detail here, but my main message to anyone on Reta, even and especially those of you using it for cutting, is to make sure you FEED it, especially carbs. I've been on reta for months, titrated up to 6 mg per week where i'm at now. The appetite suppression is largely gone, and that's a great thing. I'm at the lowest bodyweight i've been at in over 25 years, in the best condition of my life. But the real magic is this...I've increased my calories by nearly 1000 per day, largely from carbs, with an extra 30 - 50 g protein daily (compared to where I ended my cut), and not only is my weight not going up, it's not even staying put. I'm still dropping BF. My goal was to eat as much as I could and keep weight stable for 6 weeks or so prior to another cutting phase, but at 225 lbs I'm still dropping on 4300 calories daily. No change to output compared to the end of my cut.

Anyway, if you watch the video he talks about how carbs are a key catalyst for how reta works. I've tried small stints (like 3 hours before bed) of dropping carbs out, and all it does is make sleeping more difficult. I now eat carbs all the way up to bed, and sometimes my last meal of the day is very carb heavy, say 6 oz meat with 300-400 g rice. Helps me sleep and i wake up the same or lighter the next day.

Everything else has been the same for many weeks.
150 mast EOD
160 Test EOD
100 NPP EOD
5 iu GH ED
50 anadrol PWO 3-4 days per week

As you can see, trying to eat up on this cycle and still dropping BF is kind of cool. Have tons of fullness and great pumps in the gym. 20 - 30 mins fasted LISS daily and 7 - 11k steps. Train 5-6 days per week, a bit of volume but have lowered the intensity slightly.

Making sure your getting carbs and protein goals really changes things. I was really not eating enough food let alone carbs and energy was gone. Now I am feeling perfect if not better of 4mg/week reta.

yeah, low carbs on 4mg of reta weekly absolutely tanks my energy. very noticeable.

edit: yes, the guy is a fraud. He’s an ex-chiropractor with a revoked license masquerading as a health expert. He even got caught faking his CrossFit Open score with a looped video, which led to a humiliating apology.

Have you seen his “black card”? Charges like $25k a year to be part of his “community.” He immediately struck me as a sociopath but I have done my own research on the scientific data he cites and it checks out.

I can't stand listening to that dude more than 10 minutes, but thank you for the information you provided

He had a video where he blasted people even talking about microdosing Reta. He said it's worthless and will never work for anyone. That retarded take was the last straw I had from that dude.

As for your anecdote, I totally agree with you. It seems like on reta (I microdose it) you absolutely can eat more and should eat more because when I don't eat atleast maintenance calories on 3mg/week during a cut, I get really sluggish.

"maintenance calories" during a cut, aka losing weight, doesn't make sense. That means you're eating less than maintenance

Yeah I agree. If you’re in a calorie deficit, you will feel tired. Seems a bit obvious that if you take in less energy than you’re burning: you’ll have less energy…

In a calorie deficit you feel 2 things: hunger and fatigue. Both of these are very hard to handle. GLP-1s get rid of the hunger bit. But that sometimes just makes the fatigue bit more apparent. And given how much they suppress appetite sometimes the deficit can be deep, therefore the fatigue is as well.

Reta is really no different than other GLPs except it also helps regulate metabolism by mimicking GIP and Glucagon. I think that there may be something to granting the body some low glycemic index carbs here. It may help with efficiency. But mostly I think you will feel better eating carbs because they will help relieve fatigue. But in general that means also slowing fat loss since you’re lowering spent calories?

TBF, your basal metabolic rate and resting energy expenditure will materially increase on retatrutide once you hit the 4mg/week mark and "activate" the glucagon agonist. It's not an on/off switch, more like a dimmer. So your prior maintenance calories left unchanged do mean that you're likely in a deficit, until you've evened the scale through weight loss.

Reta is essentially mimicking glucagon. In a normal state, glucagon signals your liver to release stored glucose (glycogen) ito the blood stream to give you energy. On reta, it's amplifying this singal, constantly urging you body to mobilize energy and burn calories (increasing bmr). If you're eating low-carb, your liver's glycogen stores are already depleted. When reta signals "release energy", there is nothing left to release, hence feeling like shit.

It's dumb to avoid carbs because of what @trynagains alluded to. Reta makes your body sensitive to insulin. Instead of shuttling carbs into fat cells for storage (which is what happens in insulin-resistant states), the drug directs those carbs into muscle tissue to be stores as glycogen. (GIP agonist effect)

I saw that video also. He's give great info to certain things on one hand. Then shitty applications on the other. I stopped watching him, when I really saw he was just hustling those memberships.

I've had a few recomps, males and females both natty and on gear, once Reta fixed their insulin issues. Their muscles stayed fuller, because of what you've just laid out.

yeah, it's a pretty amazing drugwhen you fully understand how it works. People on Reddit that used semi or tirzep prior will complain because their appetite isn't as suppressed, but that's just a small component of how it works.
