MESO "Specialized" Testing Group Fund

I need some feedback about testing for the presence of polystyrene in US DOM vendor's oils.

Most bottletop filters are made out of / contain polystyrene one form or another. Polystyrene does not work well with neither MCT, BB or BA. It causes leeching etc.

If you search around the forum, you can see people commenting about bottletop systems leeching/cracking etc. This is just one post, there's quite a few.

Jano seems to be able to test for it ($170 a sample) and i reckon we should test using higher concentration gear as the leeching occurs faster during such cases.

Is there any point in going ahead with this testing?
(1) Is the assumption that US DOM vendors use a better filtration setup?
(2) Nobody has been harmed from this that we know off, gear still works?
Good to go? Nothing to test?

Anything else i missed?
It would be good if we can have some brewers chime in, especially those who use bottletop setups.

I am planning to send the following in for testing, still open to any feedback. Off this list, one is confirmed to be using a polystyrene bottle top filter setup. As to what bottle-tops others use, I don't know, but the vast majority out there are polystyrene.

Arail.5ml MTREN3 + .5ml SDROL50
Pench.5ml TRE200 + .5ml TRA100
Matrix1ml TRA200
Primal.5ml TRA200 + .5ml TRE400

Do you have a positive control to ensure Jano can detect styrene? Positive and negative controls are critical for this type of work. Sorry if I missed it. Catching up.

@Sampei

Moving it here.

See comments above.

Blind that sample and have also include negative control. My 2 cents.

The issue is that he's not 100% sure if he can even detect it or not..he needs that sample to see if polystyrene will even show up in gcms.

** Starting a thread after there was some interest from initial post, and we have been kicking this idea around for a bit. **

What do you say we all start a special projects MESO fund for testing? Idea is to push the envelope beyond standard tests done today to help answer outstanding questions like bioactivity of UG GH.

For any GH "special" testing, I pitch we do it as a group to help build community here at MESO. I will commit $500 (and some product as part of the testing if we do head to head comparisons). Thoughts?

My concern at this point is Jano's bandwidth and people sending in product separately (pharma vs "generic"). Hence, logistically it may make sense for one person to send samples. Anyway, I'll support whatever the team thinks has best chance for credibility and success.

We also probably need trusted members to be trustees for the fund. Perhaps quorum (2 out of 3 trustees) decision to approve funds for a test? People can also pitch ideas to the decision team, etc.

Thanks for checking this out and look forward to what we come up with.
I missed this post before. I will commit $500.
