Metformin and other Insulin Mimickers

I notice there are a bunch of these diabetic drugs, not just metformin.
Anyone have experience with metformin or the other insulin mimickers for getting lean?

Metformin does not mimick insulin. It re-sensitizes the liver and muscle to insulin in people with hyperinsulinemia (typically Type II diabetes). Metformin is a very good Type II diabetes drug but it's use for weight loss isn't quite as impressive . . . unless you are obese.

You could try one of the amylase inhibitors like acarbose (Rx) or phaseolamin (OTC) or a fat blocker like Orlistat. But in the final analysis all of these are inferior to diet discipline and boosting the cardio.

For boosting insulin sensitivity, Avandia is very good. If you're looking to get lean though, as mentioned above, there are more direct routes.

Avandia (rosiglitazone) is good for improving insulin sensitivity IF you are relatively insensitive. Nobody knows how it affects normal people but you could try calling SKB and request their Phase I or II data. Anyway, it is VERY likely that ALL drugs in this class may precipitate HYPOglycemia in normal people. Additionally, current standard of care is to get a liver profile BEFORE starting Avandia. If you going to go through all that trouble why not just eat a cleaner diet and boost the cardio? It's cheaper, healthier, AND more likely to work!

Thanks,
This is what I wanted to know... Does this stuff help above and beyond diet, training, juice and gh? And it looks like it ain't worth it.

Use the real deal...

Not a flame, but why not just use the real deal? You can pick up a bottle of Humulin-R for $20 (just do your homework before ever using insulin). There are lots of good drugs out there like metformin, etc. but they also carry more side effects (e.g. some stres the liver) and cost a lot more than a bottle of humulin. You can use a starting dose of as little of 2iu's of insulin to mimick the effects of the other drugs. Just a suggestion, be safe and good luck bro....

I agree with you.....
It was actually a question for a guy I know. He has an easy way to get metformin, is looking for leaness more than size and is terrified of slin...
He wanted to know if anyone out there has used met to lose weight.. I told him since I never hear about it, probably not.
thx

It's really worth talking to a doctor before messing around with this stuff. Insulin can be very dangerous stuff, and if you take a lot of it you can reduce your body's sensitivity to insulin, and end up with type II diabetes, which really sucks.

Same is true for some other drugs used for Type II diabetes, which cause the pancreas to produce excess insulin.

At least Metformin functions by making better use of the existing insulin you product. Watch out for lactic acidosis, which often kills you (about 6 people in every 10,000). Usually, it's people with existing liver or kidney problems, or people who drink a lot of alcohol. I'd be real nervous about oral steriods or other harsh liver things and Metformin.

Gotta have a healthy respect for this things.

I was actually under the impression that he wanted to increase insulin sensitivity after having taken insulin for awhile. If that's not the case, just buy humalog from any canadian online pharmacy. Humalin R has a longer window of activity during which you'll need to "be careful".
