Need help, daughter with cancer, looking for Ziconotide

Has anyone heard of this? It's very effective, available in countries other than the USA.
It's not a narcotic, can't get high from it, but it kills pain in cancer patients. But it has no sides.
I can't find it online: it's snail venom (yes, serious).

Its available via rx and has been since 2004.
I am sure it is expensive even with insurance but i would think that it is due to the administration technique.
Even if you could source it, you wont be able to administer it because that is done via intrathecal administration.
That means it has to be pumped into the cerospinal space.
The reason it has to be placed this way is ziconotide cannot cross the blood brain barrier. Also being 1000 times stronger than morphine, i dont think it would be wise to try to administer outside of an appropriate medical care facility.

We've learned from support group friends you can IV it. I read that about the spine injections.
And the doctors won't prescribe it or administer it until she's on her death bed, but will give her shit like oxycotin prescriptions and even morphine at the hospital.

I dont see how it would work intraveneous.
Ziconotide suffers the same fate of many peptides (the fact they cannot pass the blood brain barrier) making them useless.
In order for the Ziconotide to work intravenous , it would have to be engineered into a viral capsid (think trojan horse) to be able to cross the blood brain barrier to be of any use.
But enough of that ... if people in the support group are using it intravenously , can they not help you source it?

Maybe its time to look for a new doctor that is actually willing to help his patient. I know I would.

Never heard of it, bud. Let alone know where to source it but good thoughts coming you and your families way. Hang in there, brother.

From the bottom of my heart,I wish you the best.

Unfortunately, I have no idea about that drug.

I looked around for a minute. It is not very available.. I gathered. Looks like it is very strictly prescribed.

The administration is spinal.

You should not attempt this at home.

For what it's worth,
I believe everything said above is correct. We shouldn't try this at home cam, and the IV method doesn't check out online. I think what they got ahold of was the formulation compounded with morphine, which isn't what we want.

She wants this because it allows functional ( not high) pain relief. The doctor will prescribe her narcotics; she'd like to be functional while she can be.

I'm out of ideas on potent pain relief ( if anyone says CBD, we've bathed her in that shit, this isn't back pain).
Opiates work but she won't take them because she doesn't want to be high all the time.

I am sure all of you are going theough hell as everyone suffers when a family member siffers.
I really dont understand why a pain management doctor would just want to prescribe her opiods when she doesnt want them. A good pain management team is what you need. It doesnt seem like you are going to get it with the current doctor. I would do some searching for a different doctor and especially look for a pain management team especially geared to her situation.
There are many non opiod pain management meds but it varies on what type oc cancer and whether the pain is coming from the cancer or is chemo induced nueropothy. Thats where a pain management team would shine because certain meds would or would not be prescibed based on her current health condition. An example would ve Cymbalta is effective on Chemo induced nerve pain BUT it cant be used with people who have bad liver etc etc.
Lastly, have you thought about or tried kratom?

I sure hate that doctors are willing to throw oxys and other narcotics at her but not looking into other possible pain management treatments. Has she tried CBD oil?

Here's to your family getting thru this challenging time.

Sorry about your daughter. Cancer is a bitch. I have seen it all too well recently
Yes my mother had cancer and beat it 4 times...it's surely a bitch. Sucks that it drained all my financial assets for those expensive treatments that she had rather poor insurance for.

Maybe too late maybe not
An old friend of mines wife had terminal cancer. Given a few months to live
He found a dr in Mexico willing to experiment on a new treatment. I don't have lots of details and my friend vanished but the gist of it was to administer insulin at the same time as chemo. Theory being cancer thrives on insulin and has an over abundance of insulin receptors. Its a big weakness for the disease. So a big dose of insulin drives chemo right into the cancer cells and they can do nothing but suck it up.

His wife beat her cancer and doctors proclaimed her a medical miracle.

I wish you the best man. Have faith in God and know that Jesus loves you all and that He died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead on the third day.

God Bless you and your family.
