Need help with weight loss

Ok so my father in law is recovering from a floating knee cap which has pretty much immobilized him. Hes in his early 50s and id say hes over 300 pounds. Before it happened he already was quite over weight but now that he can't walk the pounds are really stacking up. I want to make him a workout routine he can do at home sitting in a chair to help with weight loss. I was thinking some kind of hiit circuit or maybe some kind of tabata training. Any ideas as my better half has become quite concerned about the weight and the impeding health issues that can cone of it.

For the very obese diet is going to be the biggest game changer.

I've worked with people who are not that heavy, but heavy enough that regular stuff like jogging just is not possible in their current condition. You have to approach it differently than you would a normal healthy person. Diet becomes crucial. Conversely you don't need to be quite as aggressive since their maintenance is usually quite high just do to sheer bodymass. So make some cuts in diet which are sustainable.

Whatever you can get him to do in his chair is going to help.

Thx for the reply. I forgot to mention that his other daughter will be living with him and cooking all his meals. Very healthy stuff mostly veggies. His problem had always been portion control because the foods he eats are generally pretty healthy.

And he's also going to be starting some lane swimmi g.

Perfect. Swimming is a good choice.

I have a guy I'm working with currently who started off with me at like 240lbs 5 foot 6. He was heavy. He's down to 215lbs. We are just starting to see him being able to do more things now that he could previously. Jogging is still out but he can walk. So I have him walking a reasonable amount. Gym stuff he can do so he does plenty of that and the rest is diet.

Also just teaching him *how* to eat lean, the mentality, the mindset. You really have to break it down with these guys. You have to put yourself in the shoes of someone who has never been in shape and perhaps doesn't believe he can. It's a difficult place to be. Which is also what makes it so rewarding when you do see results.

Yeah I'm definitely getting a notepad so we can track his weight, eating and exercises. It will make him more accountable

Here's what I have so far for different exercises

TABATA
20 seconds all out then 10 seconds of rest.
8 rounds total. Time it and strive to beat your time every workout.

-medicine ball pickup and slam
-medicine ball wall throw

FREE WEIGHT CIRCUIT
Pick 3 exercises, each one targetting a different muscle, to put in a circuit. Use a weight that is challenging to get 12 reps. 3 total sets of each exercise without resting. Time it, track the weights and strive to improve every workout.

-shoulder press
-lateral raises
-front raises
-upright row
-bicep curls
-hammer curls
-triceps overhead extensions
-core rotations
-side bends

CARDIO

-lane swimming
-hand bike

How about a strap-on penis ejaculator? It's robotic, comes with a remote control and has this power surge protection system so he won't fry his balls while he jizzes those luhrv handles away.

Worked for Ron Jeremy anyway
