Fellas, need some suggestions for building huge shoulders. Problem is, I have a screwed up lower back (Bulged l4/Compressed L5 and cracked tailbone) so it will have to be something that wont cause additional damage. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Barring genetics, shoulders are easy...like traps. You're rewarded for hard work with big shoulders, in the same sense as you are with traps.

If you're doing a lot of pressing movements, and a lot of pulling movements, you can't help but get big shoulders. With traps, its mostly just pulling movements. Big heavy movements give you big heavy shoulders.

What movements can't you do of these lifts:

1.) Overhead presses
2.) Push Presses
3.) Partial overheads
4.) Upright Rows
5.) Deadlifts
6.) Rows
7.) Power Cleans

what exercises aggravate your low back conditions? are you able to deadlift heavy or even do heavy overhead lifts?

So far I've been able to do miltary press (smith machine), seated DB raises, cable rows but my LB aches like a sob for a few days after. I plan to try straight bar military press next time and see how that feels. Is 3-4 sets of 4-6 reps about right for size gains.

Thanks

If you can do military presses, raises, and cable rows...you should be ok.

Why not try 70-75% of one rep max for 9-12 repsx3 sets, per exercise? less than 90 sec rest periods as well. In and put less back pain than with heavy weight, and not a bad wkout for size either. Works for me!

Good Luck!!!!!

I agree, I would do more of the 8-10 reps over 4-6. DB and barbell military presses are good. THere were posts on the old meso about people making great size gains doing partial mil. presses. I have not done this so hopefully someone that posted on that thread last year will speak up. I dont remember all the details but seems like several guys got positive results from it

Thanks fellas. I'll give all the ideas a try. Wish the guy(s) that posted that info Thick spoke of would chime in.

Thanks again,
CJ

there was a huge thread on it with a lot of postive feedback. Great gains and less chance of injury. I really dont remember who all was involved but it was some meso mainstays that got results performing military in that fashion. How are the higher reps treating you?

The higher reps seems to be ok. Aches arent as bad as I figured they would get. Doing them very slow with best form I can get. Straight bar with 25's on each side is what I'm using now. 4 sets of 12 real slow and I'm smoked! Only 3 weeks into this technique, so maybe too soon to tell right now.
Thanks again.

Dumdbell presses can do wonders for your shoulders bro, I think if you can do military presses you can do the dumdbells just make sure you are leaning against keeping your back straight, is not all about heavy poundage but FORM, with proper form and high reps you will be on your way to some nice round delts.

Good Luck!

Seated partial rep military using dumbells. I think partial reps for any shoulder press movement is the way to go. Partial meaning first half of movement before your tri's start to come into play keeping the burn on the delts.

the boys all gave great advice. I to would do lighter weights, slower negatives and higher reps for a while. Without knowing or seeing you, I think it would be best to avoid heavy compression of the spine. You've hit gold if you can find a movement that blasts your shoulders WITHOUT causing back pain during or afterwards. Good Luck
