Need to find a new Doctor

hey guys... been a while since I visited. Been seeing the same doc for a year now (Urologist). I did take a couple months off from seing him to see and Endo but he wasn't much help either and he was not very up to date either.

Anyway... still receiving one shot of 400mg a month from this doctor and I guess according to him I should be thankful for that since he told me on my last visit I didn't really need it (even though after a year of TRT my test level came in at a "whopping" 223). Anyway I live in the metro Atlanta area and wondered if anyone out there knew of a doctor that was more up to date and actually treated this like it is a problem for a 34 year old man to have test levels that low.

I have searched through some of the info posted but some of these docs look like they're a bit out there. If someone has some firsthand knowledge that would be great. I really want to give this Urologist the boot and tell him where to stick his opinions!

Having TRT via one 400mg IM shot every four weeks is barbaric. That was replaced years ago with one 200 mg IM shot every two weeks. And TRT patients still reported an intolerable "roller coaster" ride.

I am no fan of TRT via implanted pellets (I agree with SWALE's opinion on this topic), but, having said that, one of the - supposed - best Implanted Pellets doctors in the country is in the Atlanta area. He has a very ardent poster who posts on the Yahoo Hypogonadal board.

Check:

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/hypogonadism2/

Check for posts by an "ernestnolan". I believe that the doctor's name is a Dr. Gambrell. Personally I would have several preferences over pellets, but I know that this guy is extremely pleased with his results with Dr. Gambrell.

Otherwise, sorry, I am not aware of any TRT specialists in the Atlanta area. But I do know that the "therapy" that you're getting is really lousy TRT and would encourage you to do some research on TRT and armed with that knowledge, seek a better TRT specialist.

You may want to consider doing what a guy I know did...call a bunch of docs in the area and ask the head nurse what his typical treatment regime is for TRT patients. If you find one who does something more progressive you can at least schedule an appt with him to "interview" him about possible becoming a patient.

Larry--

I just went to the H2 Group, and was surprised to find out I had been banned (looks like) under my yahoo email address. I wonder what that is about.

I also see that I am not listed under the "Physicians who provide TRT" section. That is weird, especially since I have several patients who have discussed the treatment they have received from me there.

Both of the above points kind of hurt 'Ol Doc's feelings.

Once point you might like to make there with respect to T pellet TRT, there is no way to predict up front how many pellets it will take to successfully treat a given patient. The logistical considerations involved in this fact are another reason to not use them.

Dr. Gambrell - Augusta GA

Hi,

You are right. Your level is low and you have a hard time finding a doctor that can treat andropause correctly.

I was given a clue you needed info on a good doctor a couple of days ago and Augusta GA is within driving range for you.

I live in upstate NY and had a similar doctor that would correctly care for both myself and the wife after the death of Dr. Sipi of N. Bergen NJ. He was trained in Augusta Mecial College of GA by Dr. Greenblatt (now deceased), a pioneer in hormone therapy for both men and women. There were more than 100 trained there and only a handful are still alive and practicing around the US.

Dr. Gambrell was the one we had to travel to by visiting out son in Raleigh for a weekend and making the trip to Augusta and back in a long day to make the appointments every 4 months.

I receive 20 - 75mg hormone pellets under the skin every 4 months using an in office surgical procedure with a trocar for inserting pellets safely under the skin.

Dr. Gambrell's dosage formula is:

Subtract 30 pounds from your total weight and for every 10 pounds remaining you need on 75mg pellet up to a max of 20 usually. For me at 240 pounds I get 20. I have been receiving hormone pellet therapy since 1992 and now at 73 feel it has been wonderful for me and the wife.

We started down this path when the wife was given oral medications she could not metabolize in her liver so she received no benefit as no hormone reached her blood stream. Told she was crazy she suffered miserably for 1 1/2 years before a friend sent her the newspaper article about Dr. Sipi of N. Bergen NJ now deceased. in 1991

Hope this gets back to you.

Banned from a Hypogonadal Board??? That does seem strange.... Not listed under their file of "Physicians Who Provide TRT"??? That seems even more strange!

.....but take a look at the files-section: some smart-ass named Axl has posted SWALE's protocol for these poor ingnorent men of H2.......they deserve to know the proper treatment protocol...... :D :D

That's just wrong. Can anyone help out with this, please? I do not think I would be allowed to contact them and ask to be listed. But I DO think their members would potentially benefit from my good care.

What do you guys think?

That's true: they should know that there are good treatment protocols and good doctors!!

I posted that question to the group today and so far no replay.
I don't even know who is incharge to the group now.

That makes no sense, there are several posters who are patients of yours there and I have heard nothing but good about you on those boards.

Strange

I actually got referred to this board from there recently (via a link.) If you were banned then why would they let a link to this board get posted. Every post on that board is moderated. I will say that something strange is going on since there's missing files from the files section on H2 and there's been no answer to pmgamers post about you being banned. *shrug*

I am the one sending men here from the H2 group. So far 2 posts have come back mad about this. How long has it been since you were there. They now have new monitors at the site.
I am going you put you back in the database for Dr.'s mean time try to re-join.
Phil

"Two posts came back mad" at you? Can you illuminate further, please? How could anyone entertain ill thoughts about US?

You are welcome to post contact information to the H2 group here. A handshake between the two communities can only serve all members.

I was referred to the H2 Group by a poster (cannot remember who) a few days ago, and then saw that my Yahoo email addy had been "banned by the Owner". I have no idea what this means or is about, so asked, as I can think of no reason anyone would have a problem with the doctor who has donated at least ten times more time answering questions regarding male health on the Boards--for free--than any other doctor on the planet, living or dead.

I remember tha H2 group as being a very good one, but have not visited there in quite some time.

NO Two posts now a lot come back mad the you are banned for the group your name is still in the database for Dr.'s I went to input it and it was there.
I posted 2 days ago why are you banned and no one has got back to me that are incharge of the boards. Yet a lot of men what to know why you can't post and are upset about this.
Phil

Not absolutely sure, but I think that Phil was refering to two H2 posters who were mad that you (SwWALE) had been apparently banned from the site over there.

I would have thought that this was possibly possibly just a matter of your account going inactive because it hadn't been active in a while - but then why would it have come up as "banned by owner"... and also I have gone several weeks between active use there and haven't had my membership account go "inactive".

And then there's the matter with your listing disappearing from the list of doctors recommended for TRT therapy.... so it does seem quite strange. I know that there are individuals there with very strong positions concerning their method of TRT (that they are receiving) and very strong loyalty to their TRT doctor (who is administering their TRT) and would most surely hope that it didn't get down to someone not agreeing with SWALE's protocol and / or position on certain aspects of TRT and Men's Health...

Hopefully that's not the case and this turns out to just be an administrative or technical error of some type.

It would be a sad statement for that Group if the most cutting edge TRT available anywhere is considered "bad medicine". And I certainly have made myself available to the other physicians to bring them up to speed. LOL.

Yes, this could just be an administrative issue, and therefore of no import whatsoever.

To be very clear: I was able to re-join the Group. Sorry it's all I can do to keep up with htis Forum, because if I could find the time, I'd hang out there as well.
