Negatives

What do you guys thing about doing negatives once a month on the bench?

Does it help raise strength or not? I can do a slow neg with more than 100lbs than I can raise and was wondering if anyone had some links or personal experience.

Thanks...Pats

it does help. how much? really no way for me to quantify it. now that i've been doing it regularly i've cut down on injuries in my shoulders and arms though.

I don't think they serve any good purpose except to induce too much trauma. Maybe just to acclimate yourself with a heavier weight, but that could just as easily be obtained by holding the same extra 100lbs at a lock out position.

Personally, I never do them and I never have done them. Ever.

so i should just be using the serrated edge of my rambo knife huh? ;)

Of course they work. Anything that is going to break the muscle tissue is going to work

Hmmm, that's a damned good point. By that logic, sticking yourself with a needle 15,000 times a day would induce hypertrophy. Obviously, not the case.

some good info. Im more worried about injury lately as I want to be able to lift on a consistant basis...My buddy is having great results lifting light wieght like its heavy and is never injured..He aint strong either but he's getting huge.

I use controlled negatives on every rep in a rest pause fashion. My strength continues to increase every time I hit a particular exercise. I'm making the best gains of my life using this approach, and I have yet to have an injury training this way.

BTW....I train DC style.

How would you do this for legs?

thanks

You don't do this style with legs....too dangerous. You would do controlled movement down, and explode up. No negatives with legs, and some back movements, deads, etc.

I use it with chest, shoulders, tris, bis, calves, abs.

LMK if any more Q's on this.

Light weight like it's heavy? Do you mean he's doing very slow reps?

No, you just have to stop reading articles in BB magazines and start reading more posts by John Smith.
