No Carbs

I eat hardly any carbs (maybe 10 or 20 a day) and I've lost a shitload of weight. I started to exercise (about 4 years ago) but have gotten serious with weights in the last year. People keep telling me that I need to eat carbs if I exercise a lot but I'm afraid I'll turn into a slob again. Is eating only proteins enough? Or should I be taking carb shakes too?
Thanks
Jeff

Skip the carb shakes.

You could get by with only protein and fat. I wouldnt recommend it though. Depending on what your current weight and bodyfat is, along with your goals and workout plan, that will ultimately determine your carb intake.

All I know is that if I don't get any complex carbs....there's no way i can sustain working out hard for long periods of time... As long as you eat em right after you work out you shouldnt gain the weight back!

Look, bro, carbs are not the devil. I know it fashionable and all that shit these days to not eat carbs, but they are GOOD for you.

I'll tell you what right now. You ARE NOT going to look like...fuck, let me change that...you are not going to look like shit without carbs.

It is neigh onto impossible to put on any appreciable(and by "appreciable" I mean being WELL over 200lbs) muscle mass by using a ketogenic diet.

I'm sure Bob will try and disagree with me, since that's his thing, but, just liek the last time, he will find some stiff competition.

And, to cut you off at the pass, Bob, let me remind you of something. The first 1 or 2 or 3 times you did a keto diet, you refed with corn syrup based products. It has only been within the last 4 weeks that you have learned that those are not your best choice. So, don't give me any shit about how your refeed/carb choices(or lack thereof) are of the utmost importance, unless you wish to concede that you have never seen the 7% that you proclaim you have. :D

Woah, woah, woah! Settle down there Hoss! Not once have I ever said a low/no carb diet is good for packing on muscle. Its possible, but not remotely close to optimal.

What did I use to refeed before the past month? Same things as I am now. Bagels, gatorade (which I skipped this weeks), pasta and fat-free pasta sauce that Jewel makes.

BTW, I have seen 7-8%, it just hasnt been anytime recently. And that was with doing refeeds much like you are doing.

No, you never have said that. In fact, I believe that you have even told Desi that it's not a good idea. However, I know how you like say the opposite of what I do, so I figured you'd say that keto bulking is perfectly fine because of blah, bleh and bloh.

Twizzlers and jelly beans, Bob. That's what you ate.

That was my last diet. I havent used Jelly Bellys this time around. I think I only used Twizzlers once this time. So there! :D

I know this, but the time you made it to 7% that's what you used. That's my point.

I'm just railing at the crap you posted when we were arguing about the fat content being important. You had said that the refeeds and food choices therein were of the utmost importance(which is why I had failed before) and I just thought I'd point it out here that your refeeds were "less than optimal" up until Lyle pointed it out like 4 weeks ago.

Fat content during a refeed is important. I never denied that some of my refeeds have been less than optimal. I know that. I dont recall whether Lyle mentioned anything to me about them or not.

How is your progress this time around with a modified keto diet as opposed to the last time you tried one? From what youve said, its 100x better.

Most definitely. Techinically, I've never employed a keto diet...sepcifically....though there have been times when I've dropped my carbs to 50 or so to make up for my shitty "refeeds."

Actually, I didn't mean the fat content in the refeeds. I was referring to when I said that high fat was necessary. Of course, that's just a personal thing since I weigh much more than the 200lb guy I was addressing.

I remember in that post how you had mentioned that the type of food you eat in a refeed makes all the difference. This is both true and false. Pizza, icecream and KEY LIME PIE(yummy!) are not good. As we know now, corn syrup based products are not ideal, but they won't break the diet. This is all I'm saying.

As you may have noticed from a few of my posts that you read, I was just in an extra ornery mood last night. Don't take it too personally. I'd have bit off my mother's head if she was around. ;)

I figured you were being a pain in the ass. WHats new, right? :D

High fat or high fructose/corn syrup refeeds arent the best by any means and will not provide for optimal results, but if your diet is excellent during the week, then you will still get some results.

BTW, 50g is a keto diet, smarty pants.

I only meant I dropped them for a day or two, you pain in the ass! :D Typically, I would be right on the verge of a keto diet(104g/d) and then up the carbs every couple of days.

Honestly, I think some of my best results have come from a "yo-yo" diet. I'd go low on the carb/cals for 3 days, high for one day, low for 2 days and then high for one more. It worked pretty well, but I think I like this method better.

Well Grizzly I'm a small bastard probably about 1/2 your weight. I was 195lbs, and I dropped to 135lbs from the low carb diet. I know it sounds like I must be a rake but I'm only 5ft3 and I was a fucking butterball before I dropped the carbs (kept off the weight for 4 years now). I did a Winny cycle and brought my weight up to 145lbs but I've still got a bit of a gut. I might run another cycle next month (will do more cardio too) and I'll try to post the before and after pictures. I think you can still acheive a decent body without any carbs (at least for my frame). I just find that the second after I eat any carbs that I fall asleep. Might just be how my body reacts to them but I know I'm a lot healthier without them.

Grizz, how did the high, medium, low carb days affect your energy in the ring? Could you tell much of a difference from day to day? I'm currently eating about 150g carbs/day for my precontest diet. I'm refeeding every Saturday at 350g consisting of pasta, baked potatoes, brown rice (in moderation), oatmeal, broccoli, and green salads. The weight's coming off slowly but surely, and my energy/strength are still high. Last diet, I stayed under 100g carbs/day and regretted it. It cost me too much size, fullness, energy, and weight. I guess it all just depends on what your goals are, energy requirements, and will-power.

I did the yo-yo stuff when I was only a BB. I used it for the 2 competitions that I did, so I can't tell you about energy in the ring. After having done this keto thing, though, I can guess that the energy probably would have been great since I was eating 2X as many carbs as I am right now on my lowest day and I don't feel bad right now. So....
