OK back with OLY SQUATS

I started with 135 just to warm up and get my form down .. went up to 185 for 2 sets with good form and then up to 205 for 2 sets .. I felt pretty good and just for 1 rep i wasn't concentrating so my knees went to the front and most of the weight fell to my back. I was fine with the weight since it was so light but it did piss me off for about 2 seconds, because i lost form ... Animal, you said to make sure the weight was being pushed with even pressure from bottom of my feet,i believe .. Should i try to push more with my heels because i do but sometimes some pressure will go to the balls of my feet. Your right about pointing knees out because i can balance alot better that way. . turns out my flexibility isn't that bad after all. i just have the problem of taking sets to possitive failure, because i don't have a spot, but i do get lightheaded so i'm sure the intensity is there for now ... thanks for your help ..

yeah - try to push with your heels - you shouldn't be on the balls of your feet. - And continue to push those kneesout, opening up the groin.

Congrats on giving them a second chance.

thanks again .. they feel great

I am going through the same problem. I can maintain good form, pushing with my heels when the weight is light at 135 or so. But once i get a little fatigued and the wieght goes up i end up just lifting it with my back which i fine while i am dealing with these baby weights but I want to get up there. for god sakes i am benching way more than i can oly sqat. I have been at it for a coupe months now but just recently really started to caoncetrate on form. Does it just take a while to get it right? Should I stick with the light weight until I can do it no problem or push it up slowly in order to get used to holding the wiehgt with good form?

thanks

not sure what your asking when you say slowly or with light weight .. Animal told me to stay with the light weight with good form and eventually strength will go up. I guess the muscles that help balance the weight need strengthening in me. I can also bench alot more than OLY Squat but i know it will come

No, stay fast - but you should be able to hold your back tight and not get bent over. However, the tough thing about when you do that is that it means you either have a very weak back (because you can't stay upright) or you have a strong one (because you are letting your back compensate for your leg weakness during squats).

Keep it tight and make your legs do the work - most of you have really probably never worked legs like an OLY squat works them which is why you are dumbfounded at your lack of strength.

Matt

Now that you mention it and looking at my deadlift weight,i say my back is wanting to take the weight from my little weak legs :) ... You say FAST reps ... OK i was going to ask about that but forgot

yeah my back is not super strong but I think you are right. I need to just stick with the lower weight and good form until I can keep my back striaght. so I should concentrate on keeping my lower back tight? Damn who knew lifting correctly woudl be so damn hard. Well good thing I dont have a big ego. thanks again.

I have the same problem. I try to push with my heels but it feels like I'll fall backward. I have a tendency to lean forward while I squat or I'm pushing from the toes. Does this mean I have a weakness somewhere? Must be my back. I was thinking of trying front squats but ive never done them before and didn't want to hurt myself placing the bar in the wrong spot.
