Old newb

Hello. I'm a 39 male 215 lbs probably over 20% bf
5'11"

Started lifting at 12. Powerlifting at 14. Consistently gained 10 lbs a year till 23-24. Bodybuilding at 23. Oly lifting at 25. Then quit due to back problems. 25-present....Switched to running, boxing, cycling, body weight exercises and mma. I'm a bit of an extremist/addict in most everything I do.

I wish I never stopped lifting but all the docters told me that it was causing it. Went through acupuncture, chiropractic crap, drugs, heavy duty massage therapy and physical therapy. Finally a therapist said, get back in the gym and lift weights. So here I am.

Started out first month with a basic 5x5 oly strength training program 3 days a week. Includes hang snatch, hang cleans, push press, front squats, "clean/deadlift/shrug, overhead squats, and bench.

I'm now adding in power cleans, power snatch, split jerks, incline bench and now that I've gained some strength back I'm adding some higher rep bodybuilding movements for biceps n tris. Going to do back squats tommorrow for the first time in over a decade!

Still....I'm pretty satisfied with being in the gym for under six weeks and regaining my strength. My shoulder strength has always been my sweet spot. Seated military press 190lbs! Standing Barbell push presses at 165lbs and 175! Give me a year and I'd be blowing those numbers past 250 natty. Unfortunately, my deadlifts, squats and anything that has to do with my lower back, is weak. Deads are at 195-205lbs at last sets and recovery takes 2-3 days with a crap ton of stretching. I've only front and overhead squat so far with no more than 155lbs. So we are going heavy on back squats tomorrow to see what I'm capable of.

Im not even thinking of AS for a year or more now. My history is one short deca/Winnie and one long eq only at 23 and 24 years old. I respond ridiculously to hormones. Gyno and severe acne at puberty. Packed on lbs with pro hormones when they were legal. Then with light AS. Also got gyno scares everytime. Fortunately, I was well prepared.

Came here because

I need to re learn A LOT.
You guys seem to stick together like a pack of wolves.
Also cause this is a self moderated board. Not much chit is tolerated.
Plus I have questions, that I will start threads on in appropriate areas. Mostly gyno drug related/Pct.

Looking forward to being here.

Ok, so i failed to mention goals. Mostly to get back were I was and take it further. I just need help sticking to it.

In a year or less: (in lbs. 1 rep max)
Back squat 385
Snatch 205
Clean n jerk 250
Bench 295
Dead 405

Look to be able to control my diet within the next couple months. Peanut butter Magnum ice cream bars are on sale right now. That's very very bad for a guy like me!!!

Maybe add some cardio???? Lol.

Good thing is, I don't do much other than eat to destroy my body. Recreational toxins have been out of the picture for nearly a decade now.

Thanks for the welcome.

Your not old lol. Welcome brother, thanks for the intro. I took many years off due to back problems but my back has never been better since I got back in the gym.

I feel old. Plus I was once on a forum, like this,15 years ago. Was anyone here, on the forums back then?

What did you do to your back?

My back is better. Last two years physical therapy and body weight exercises. I doubt the pain will leave completely. Right now it feels like I'm in a "tearing down and building" phase. It feels great 2 to 3 days after a hard session. But during the 2 days of recovery I'm stretching, drinking gallons of water, massage, everything I can do to help. But I definitely feel stronger. I can be on my feet and sit for longer periods of time without being totally uncomfortable. At this point i am convinced, or have convinced myself, that developing back muscle WILL hold up my bones better. Makes sense in scientific theory.

Hey, nice introduction. Detail is important round here. You should fit right in.

Join the club of cripples around here. I don't do deadlifts any more either. They were the original root cause of my injury. If you feel it necessary AND can perform them safely it probably wouldn't be a bad idea to re introduce them back in to training.

I'm trying to preserve my lower back as best possible so at least I can build my legs thru heavy squatting. Which seems is all its good for these days. Still squats aren't without price :(

Let me know how it works for you

I understand you are 260-270 ish. Nice work! Squats are crucial in getting big and strong from my experience. I once did the program in the book "super squats". Were you take a poundage you could only do 10 reps with and do it 20 reps. Then add weight the next week and do it again. Had a sink nearby to puke in. That packed on the most thickness of any squat program ever. Plus it really tore apart everything I mentally believed about lifting to failure. I eventually applied it to other lifts.

Welcome to MESO brother!!

I wish I didn't stop lifting as well...got lost in drugs for a decade. Its been life changing getting back in the gym...coming up on 2 yrs back lifting and feeling great...so will you!!!

Good Luck

So I've been in the gym for seven weeks. Benched 210 for 2 reps yesterday. It's coming back. Be at 225 in two weeks and maybe 245 by the end of next month or so. Then comes the plateau : (
