Krebs TS, Johansen PR. Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) for alcoholism: meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. Journal of Psychopharmacology 2012;26(7):994-1002. Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) for alcoholism: meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Assessments of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) in the treatment of alcoholism have not been based on quantitative meta-analysis. Hence, we performed a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials in order to evaluate the clinical efficacy of LSD in the treatment of alcoholism. Two reviewers independently extracted the data, pooling the effects using odds ratios (ORs) by a generic inverse variance, random effects model. We identified six eligible trials, including 536 participants. There was evidence for a beneficial effect of LSD on alcohol misuse (OR, 1.96; 95% CI, 1.36–2.84; p = 0.0003). Between-trial heterogeneity for the treatment effects was negligible (I2 = 0%). Secondary outcomes, risk of bias and limitations are discussed. A single dose of LSD, in the context of various alcoholism treatment programs, is associated with a decrease in alcohol misuse.

can i just point this out. a single dose of lsd, in the context of various alcoholism treatment programs, is associated with a decrease in alcohol misuse. referenced from the journal of psychopharmacology.

I have no doubt this could be true.

My question is why isn't this main stream treatment if it's effective? Could it be more than just the stigma? Could it be the unpredictable side effects?

I don't know the answer (and I suspect neither do you) but those are the questions that immediately come to my mind.

Not true...marijuana is schedule 1 as well yet it is Rx by medical doctors in states where it's legal.

Also the fact that LSD is a schedule 1 drug says something....IT'S NOT SAFE!

i also wonder about other preperations of lysergic acid if lsd is so scary or too intense. lsd 25 is the 25th and like all drugs the list is long. some are explored in thikal by alexander shulgin.

Unless something has changed recently LSD and marijuana are both schedule 1 under federal law. LSD is unsafe because it's unpredictable and those who do not respond well go ape shit.

if the tv keeps telling your son hes satan take him to a doctor.
where is he thats hes unemployed and surrounded by trash. get him help.
sounds like there more going on than a bad trip 14 years ago. i dont believe that.

You sound like a lot of people I've dealt with that think they understand mental illness, but really, do not know anything about it, other than You dont want it.

I'm not going to defend my position to you. I will tell you, you have no idea what has happened to my son since his drug induced days. You are way out of line to call me a liar. "Get him help" and "Take him to a doctor"... He has been to several doctors, hospitals, clinics and more for the "HELP"...if only it were that easy.

Now I will move down to your other response and clear up your misunderstanding there.

My thoughts go out to you keriheat. My children are 2, 5 and 7 and while their futures are full of hope the thing I most fear is being in your position later on in life. All the best to you and your son!

Thank you for your consideration. Don't fear the part of life you have not lived yet, It will drain happiness from you and your wonderful kids. Protect them with every ounce of your being and follow your gut. What has happened to my son and I doesn't happen to everyone, but every once in awhile I heed the need to sound the alarm for others. When I get in this mode it is painful, but I am blessed that I still get to talk to him everyday. Some parents have lost there children, never to see or speak to them again. In this regard I am thankful.

You're a good man! Thanks for the advice...I do my best to enjoy them everyday while balancing the need to raise them to be become productive responsible members of society.

you cant od on lsd. im calling bullshit.

You can call it what ever you want! You can overdose on water! There are a couple of facts that are clear here. [1] You are in a discussion that you truly dont understand. [2] Your reading comprehension is poor to say the least.

Nowhere in my post that you quoted me on did I mention LSD or acid. I used the terms drugs, alcohol, crap and stuff. This is what I said about the boy who overdosed.
One of his friends OD'd on the stuff and didn't wake up one morning. The crap is dangerous by anyone's measure, both drugs and alcohol.
The Facts:
The boy was a known user of 'acid'. He was out of town with some friends and they attended a 'Phish' concert. He used some acid and alcohol and some other benzo's and went back to his room and went to bed. His friends found him the next morning and he was dead. 2 things I know to be true that you no nothing about. The boy used LSD and he is 6 feet under somewhere in St. Louis County. The 'acid may not have caused cardiac arrest, but it was a drug that he had ingested the night before the morning when his world stopped.

Fair warning! One of these days when you either mature or grow older, you will learn about the word 'NEVER' and life will uncock your cocksuredness! I hope it is not to painful!

Additionally...you need to stop telling people the guillotine is perfectly safe lest you become responsible for someone getting their head chopped off!

Just poppin in for a "quickie".... :D:D

For the record. I actually know a girl who I grew up with who had that urban legend happen to her - the one where some sticks a SHEET of acid near their body NOT THINKING and then sweats and gets it.. She is supposedly "not right" anymore", and in a way that sound debilitated and people cringe when they speak of her....

I also have an aunt who is fairly intellectual, however, she kinda shocked me once as she feels like if you have EVER done LSD, you are forever fucked. Its almost like she knows something and its wierd to be diagnosed like that, but I'm thinkin she just had a bad trip.... LOL:eek:

Everyone is CRAZY. The brain breaks down like any other part of the body. So its - LIFE'S a BITCH, You go CRAZY, Than Ya Die... LOL

LMFAO. thanks bro :-bd.
my reading comprehension is not poor. youre full of shit, crap and stuff.
what about this conversaton do i not truly understand. lsd, psychedelics, other drugs, as well as drug and alcohol abuse. please! [:o)]
i dont advocate guillotines. my message on the subject is simple. the docs link a legit one. additionally lsd is one of the safest drugs there is. thats a fact you cant dispute.
thanks for the warning. ;)

Here's this alcoholic's perception! I have a 32 year old son who hasn't worked for 14 years, tried to kill himself in an automobile accident, doesn't know that the soda cans and pizza boxes piled around him belong in the trash and the TV keeps telling him he's Satan. All he did was a little weed and a couple of hits of LSD and went on a trip that never brought him back home!!! Yeah, I'm a little touchy but It has nothing to do with my perception!!!

all he did was...
