So, with hoping to place an order in a few weeks from a Domestic US source.. is there still a possibility of being stung?

Possibility? Yes.

Probability, no. Extremely low. Even if you get caught they often do not have enough to prosecute if you are smart enough to just shut your damn mouth and not talk or try to talk your way out of it or be all cool and admit it because it is no big deal or lie to federal agents. Just STFU. Very, very low chances. It is a numbers game. The odds are not as low as winning millions in the lottery or being struck by lightning, but they are low, nonetheless.

If, however, anybody tells you it is not possible and does not happen, they are a liar or just ignorant.

We sometimes get the feeling because we discuss it on the internet openly that this is legal or nobody in law enforcement cares. Neither assertion is true. It is fairer to say it is a very low priority for law enforcement, but that may depend upon where you live and how your local PD feels about the gift wrapped felony case the postal inspectors drop in their lap.

Domestic vendors may also use real return addresses too, so if usps sends your package back as undeliverable, someone is gonna open it and probably call law enforcement. I know in one incident, this is what triggered LE to profile packages shipped from the area and eventually lead to the arrest of the vendor.
