Volume yes, but at that volume, you should be able to handle a higher frequency of training providing that you are using the right intensity level. If you're not spending 2 hours in the gym, then are you training to failure set after set? If so, its possible that you (you individually) need that many days of rest because you are expending too much effort in one session. I trust that you understand the concept of periodization? The biggest problem with periodization is applying it; you might understand it but still expend too much effort in the gym as a result of enthusiasm for training. I have had a constant struggle with this since the day I started applying it.

Also, you are doing big lifts and most of those big lifts affect lumbar, hams, quads and it is said that the lumbar can use a whole week of rest in some cases, 5 days in others, after direct work. I'd say quads need 3-5 days depending on the level of effort, but under no circumstances would I say that triceps need 6 days.

What are you doing for exercise selection? Honestly, I find myself doing exercises that I like which are not as beneficial as the exercises that I know I should be doing. For example, my chest cannot handle the training that I use to subject it to after I tore my left pec off (while training HST by the way) and so though I should be doing close grip bench for 5-6 sets, I instead do one arm extensions and sometimes standing french presses for greater sets.....but 5-6 sets of good close grip blows my triceps up unlike any other. If I do those once a week and pulley pushdowns the other session of the week, my arms get huge, I have been upwards of 19-3/8" in past months. RIght now, I'm stuck at 19 no matter the fact that my single arm dumbbell extension is pretty strong - I use the 55 for sets of 8-10 and have done the 60 before on a non-press day without any problems. Simply put, when I could close grip 335 for 5, I had big triceps, now, I could probably waste 6 more months on one arm dumbbell and not see much growth even if I managed to handle 70s for 8-10. Oh, the reason I sometimes cant do close is because there is some meat that was not reattached on my left side and I get odd burning sensations from close grip if I have trained chest hard in exercises prior. Anyway, my point, there are good exercises and there are bad. It could very well be that your exercise selection is not bringing you much in the way of triceps development.

What is your rest interval like? Have you slowed down to 3-5 minutes between sets? I cant lift shit and I do not get bigger if I rest under a minute.

HST has a following on this board but, as you pointed out, we all have individual differences and training 3x does not work for me. 2x is fine, 3 on 1 off is better, 1x is maintenance. My point - it may be that you can train once every 4 or 5 days. A week is more than enough recovery for even the nastiest training providing that overall volume is not suicidal.

However, I am saying that someone such as myself does not repsond to the frequency of 2x's/ week. And I do not stay in the gym for two hours at a time. My training program consists of about 40-50min of high intensity core lifts such as: squat, deadlift, clean, push presses, glute ham raise, and etc. My arms grew more when I lowered the volume down to what I mentioned previously. My training program changes consistently, I periodize my training, so to give you my exact program will be too lengthy.

I am simply giving the guy some extra advice about why he might not be growing. He is on a 1x/body part workout and maybe he will respond better to 2x's or maybe 3x's. Everyone is different. "The principle of Individual Differences"

And I started training when I was about 130lbs soakin' wet and am currently at 205lbs. with only one cycle.
 
Guys I Train My Tris Just As Hard As Everything Else And They Seems To Be Growing To Much. Im Thinking About Dropping Some Sets Or Adding Sets To My Other Body Parts. Any Of You Guy How To Deal With This ?
