P. Diddy Survives 'Vote or Die' Attempt

(2004-11-04) -- Rap star Sean 'P. Diddy' Combs is reportedly in stable condition after surviving a self-inflicted 'Vote or Die' attempt on Tuesday.

Despite millions of dollars, and countless appeals by popular youth role models, like Mr. Diddy and filmmaker Michael Moore, young people turned out to vote in historically typical percentages, rather than the flood tide Democrats had expected would sweep John Forbes Kerry into the White House.

Mr. Moore said he has confidence that his young fans, who cheered him wildly during his nationwide 'Slacker Uprising Tour', will turnout to vote eventually.

"But we need to wake them up and get them to the polls before they have jobs, children, financial responsibilities or faith in God," said Mr. Moore. "Once that happens, they lose their progressive idealism."

Joe Scarborough said it best tuesday night/wednesday morning:

"The reason politicians don't pay attention to younger voters is because they will leave you at the alter every single time".

It's true, young people my age (24/25) bitch constantly about the state of the country and they always say they will vote for a change.....but they never do.

When a person owns a home, pays bills, starts a business they become more consious of government... most younger voters are still in fantasy land. Their biggest concern is buying CD's and baggy pants.

Once government starts to make a direct impact on pocetbooks, people start to vote.

Very well said. I was watching c-span about 2 weeks ago. They had a panel of 5 dems and 5 republicans answering questions for audience members about the candidates.

An 18 year old college kid stood up and was gonna ask a question about something (can't remember what it was...not important). Well, after his question was answered, one of the panelists asked him "why do you think most younger people and college kids tend to lean to the left??"

Without even thinking the kid responded: "because we have yet to have a real job, pay a mortgage, or pay taxes".

I thought "wow....he gets it already".
