For me it's definitely guys putting back plates in the wrong place. For real, if you are going to be doing that shit, it's better to leave the plates on the barbell and let someone with a brain put them back. Few things infuriates me in the gym as much as seeing the "weight storage bar" loaded with one 5kg plate placed furthest in, followed by 15kgs, then two 10kg plates etc. I spend most of my rest times between sets reorganizing the weights to keep them sorted correctly, and that's not even a joke.
Not really pet peeve, but this was amusing. Saw a guy putting on wrist wraps and a lifting belt. Paces around, swinging his arms and getting himself psyched up I'm assuming. I thought he was about to load up some big weight and go for a PR or something. After a few minutes of this he proceeds to load up a 35lb plate on each side of the smith machine and bang out a few reps.
