Poliquin Seminars

I have a chance to attend a 1-day Poliquin Seminar along with Ed Coan. Anybody been to a Poliquin camp or seminar? Is it worth the price? Note that I have dished out high dollar for S&C seminars and even own a $1000 CrossFit level 1 t-shirt. I also got to train with and coached by Klokov who doesn't speak English by the way for a cool $400.

I figure what the hell, these guys don't role through my hood very often and bucket list. They probably aren't gonna tell anything I don't know but I know they will critique my methodology and verify or correct me. S&C is about standing on the shoulders of giants because most of everything has been detailed by the likes of Verkhoshansky, Siff, Zatsiorsky, etc.

Poliquin used to be one of the most knowledgeable minds in the S&C world...then he went batshit crazy about 10yrs ago and hasn't been worth listening to since.

Just keep an open mind if you decide to attend - don't fall for the trap of believing everything your told just because its coming from an authority figure.

It's very worth while go for it ! poliquin as a strength coach has had many world athletes under his belt. Nothing can discredit that.!

Ever listen to Louie Simmons talk or witness some of his methods? Talk about batshit hyperbole lol. I'm starting to think any strength coach worth a shit has a little quirkiness to them. I'm even thinking about saying crazy shit once and awhile. Thanks for the heads up tho and for keeping me on the fence lol.

I believe that knowledge can be passed through osmosis. You can only learn so much from books and vids. Sooner or later you have to touch the bar while a coach greater than you is watching to know what it's really all about. They may see something you didn't think about or verify a way you've always been doing things. Good experience either way.

Id pay $1000 for one hour with Ed Coan .
With a bench/weights . Show me master...:D
It's gonna be 8 hour day. Going over mostly powerlifting method and technique (bench, squat and dead) as applied to sport performance.

I paid nearly half that to train/coach with an Olympic silver medalist. Ed is just as big in the powerlifting world. Plus I think the high price tag will make for a smaller but more intimate attendance. One on one time with greats is what I want to be there for. I hate going to large seminars and not getting any time to pick the coaches brain.

Go for it, if you've got the money to spare and it's something you would enjoy then I say why the hell not.

I'd ditch the crossshit shirt though ;p

I just came across this this morning, the IPF forbids its members from attending Ed Coan seminars since he was banned for life from the IPF.

Ed Coan Training Seminars in Sweden

I've never competed IPF/USAPL and stuff like this makes me never want to.
Saw that too. Good thing I'm not a power lifter. It's kinda messed up.

Dave Tate made a great point: Say you run into him at a restaurant and he is polite and gives you a lot of great advice about training. In appreciation you pick up his tab. How is that any different from going to his seminars?

Anti doping agencies are going a bit to far with that one. Also good I don't live in Sweden.

Yeah, I figured you weren't by your avi.

IPF would probably expect someone to find a different restaurant if they walked into one Ed Coan was eating at from what I've been reading. Crazy as it's a hobby for most of us and we pay to compete, seems like they're overstepping their bounds for sure.

On topic though, I'd definitely go if money, time and opportunity allowed it. Should be an awesome experience.
