Possible tricep tear

So, two days ago I decided to bench 440lbs. I almost finished the rep but at the top part my elbow just gave out and heard a loud pop. I had to drop the bar, but luckily there was a safety. My elbow quickly swelled but I had ZERO pain, even when the injury happened. And still, there is no pain or bruising. The swelling is also almost gone and the shape of the triceps still looks normal. It only hurts a little when i touch the spot( outside of the elbow). Will meet the orthopaedic doctor in 2 days.

Partial tear. Luckily, no surgery required
I’m surprised there wasn’t any bruising on the partial tear. When I tore my pec bruising started with a half hour. 2 days later it spread to my entire right chest and upper arm area. Was a partial tear, no surgery. I was told a total tear wouldn’t have bruising.

It does. I have aquired one. And i not and very cautious with bench, barbell bench is litterally the worst thing for someones chest.

Totally agree. It was exactly barbell flat bench that got me. Not even on my heaviest set, was 3 sets in pushing 295, 40 pounds less than my 3 rep max. Like I was told “it can happen at any time “.

Bruising did actually appear 3 days post Injury, but very little. Only few small spots around the elbow

Lol, no bruising my ass. I was flat barbell benching a weight that I could handle for about 10 reps. Right as I started to press back up on the third rep....POP! Followed by tingle and a strange feeling - not anlot of pain. By the next day my entire arm was purple down to my forearm. Later it turned black. It was a complete pec detachment from my humerus.

Damn man, that had to really suck to say the least. Obviously surgery was needed, how long was recovery? I was able to push light weight on hammer strength equipment after about 2 weeks with the partial tear. This happened to me a year and half ago but I never went back to barbell flat bench. Some incline bench light and dumbbells, machines mostly now.IMG_0653.jpeg

Dumbbell is ok too, and plate loaded, as long as your not overloading the stretched position. Like heavy flys obviously not, but i find one handed pec dec flys light weight many reps, works well. And landmine press chest. I its been 1.5 years since i got surgery on mine.

This is why I gave up 400+ and do higher reps in 300s. Over 40 it is just a recipe for injury.

Wish I had done this as a young man. Kept chasing 500 club and almost got there, much to my future disappointment and frustration.

What you had sounds like partial detachment. (I agree)

This will continue to get worse (multiple partials) unless you change it up. 1 year for your body to replace collagen 3 with higher tensile strength collagen 1.

Yea it will most likely get worse, if I continue pushing. The funny thing is that, 1 week after the injury, the strength is still there.

It will be till you hit the tipping point, and it _will_ come. Sadly I speak from hard headed experience.

I will say you probably don’t have a major partial. (Sounds like tendon popped over part of the bone or shifted and you had a micro tear).

It goes from a strong dull ache to a debilitating pain that becomes intense and sharp when you have a major partial. Can’t lift shit for weeks
