Pre/Post workout supplements

As for normal schedule it is 4 days of a 2 hour skate with 2 days have an extra 1.5 hr skate. Then 4 days 2 hour workouts and 1 day recovery workout. If it has been a longer travel weekend then things may be shifted.

They do balance out his work load well, some workouts are yoga to help with recovery. They plan their team meals around pre/post loading while on the road. He has been at this pace for 3 years now and loves it. Personally I would be great if he wanted to walk away but he has zero interest in that. This is pretty much what hockey looks like for this age/level across Canada and the US. Many of the kids leave home at 15 to live with other families they don’t know so they can play on a team. What is common in hockey I hope never happens in any other sport. They don’t even go straight to college after high school, they have to play juniors for a year or two and then go to college. Even D1 Club hockey wants to see juniors experience. It is insane.
Its cool af in us and canada here in eu school and sport are 100% separate so teachers always tell us that sport is a waste of time and we should focus on studyng even during university there arent school teams
There is somewne that can manage to do both but u have to focus just on them

Now seem a bit less hard so its like 15/16 hours every week?

Your teachers are 99.9% right lol
.1% is all that’s gonna make it.

When he first started playing at this level we didn’t realize the calorie burn and you could see his spine. It wasn’t because he wasn’t eating it just wasn’t enough. We called in a nutritionalist who specialized in hockey players to figure out what we needed to do differently. It has been a lot of learning and adapting but I am always looking for improvements which is why I posted.

To further elaborate and simplify
Supplements- trash
Nutrition- 60/20/20
Sleep - 10-12 hours
Rest - min 60 days per year of doing absolutely nothing ie weeks 1-49 = 49 days + weeks 50-52 = 21 totaling 70 off days
295 days per year should be a plenty for training and competing
Or about 81%.

I don’t buy into all of the marketing, things we add are researched and watched to see if there is a benefit. Most heavily marketed products are trash ingredients that I can’t believe are so heavily touted. Adding vitamins (which I interchange with supplements but I think that got lost on this post) to replace what is being lost at a rapid rate is important imo. Something as simple as adding the carbs to his mid workout routine could be something that really helps. Those were the kinds of ideas I was looking for.

I am not going to tell him he can’t skate with the pro guys when they come home to train for the summer. I’ll let you do that.

A solid mix of protein and carbs before a workout keeps energy up, and fast-digesting protein after helps recovery. Creatine and electrolytes can be good additions depending on goals.

Tbh also carbs after to eestore glycogen, gpt didnt cooked here lol
Btw @Here2Learn how is going?
Season has ended so transitioning over to summer plan, he is doing an active recovery period. Added some carbs for between periods and felt he was able to main more efficiently in each period.

He is still skating everyday but taking off some of the extra skates and doing yoga. I noticed he came home and was sore so he must have started working out again. He has some camps scheduled so will ramp up workouts now but will need to back off before each camp so he can go in fresh.

Summer gains is the name of the game now.
