The way I see it, everyone with half a brain assumed mk was ppl. That might've stopped some from using mk or ppl for that matter.

Good point. I don't see what advantage there would be to shipping unfiltered gear. All the expense of manufacturing and shipping finished product is still there less the cost of filtration which is minimal. It's a dumb idea.

Unless one has set up their own mailserver on their very own IP it wouldn't work.

Years ago some dumb mailservices referred the IP address of the sender in the email, but I'm not aware of such service existing anymore. Much less I can imagine secure mail service doing that.
